Sad news. Had the pleasure of sailing with him several times and bumped into him recently heading of on one of his long range fishing adventures. Loved life.

Very, very sad tragic news of the loss of a good friend Grant, he will be deeply missed. A warm friendly helpful and sincere person. We shared making boards together, Windsurfing, story telling and fun times. Grant always was a very adventurous soul, living his life to the full in all his activities that he loved to do. I will treasure the memories and his inspiration.
My deepest sympathy goes out to all his family and friends.
Mike.

My only knowledge of the man also - recognisable by his iconic avatar image. Always a great loss when it's someone that enjoys life to the fullest.

Condolences to his family and those friends that browse these forums.

That is sad. It always is when someone dies in the process of just having fun.
For some reason I did wonder when I heard the announcement if it might be him, even though hundreds of people hang glide in WA.
I well remember about 7 or 8 years ago when he posted here that he was thinking of taking up the hobby. I also remember that I carefully made the warning that hang gliding or anything in the aviation business had to be treated with the greatest caution and respect due to the fact that unlike windsurfing where your mistakes just end up with a severe rinse in the water, even the smallest of errors in flying can sometimes end up in the greatest of tragedies.
I have been around aviation for over 50 years now and have witnessed the loss of a number of friends and good people.
Being really good at it is no protection from the immediate and severe consequences of just one small error of judgement.
There is no 'pause' key, no 'escape' key, and no 'replay' key. Once the process is in motion it proceeds to completion due to unbreakable physical laws. It very unforgiving of error.
For all those still playing in it, be very very careful.
R.I.P.

Agreed.... this is one of the best windsurfing pics going...

the move should be named after him, although not a lot of us could do it, i'd be happy to get the height... then bale....

Very sad times, my thoughts go out to his mates and family.

Just a suggestion, but maybe we can all change our avatar to his for a month as a sign of respect, like a black arm band.

Met Grant in Feb during a kayak fishing trip off North Mole, the week before he bumped into the mako off Pt Peron. Heading back into a bitter easterly we swapped his windsurfing and my kiting stories, and he gave me advice about offshore fishing. Great meeting you, mate. You've got all the right winds in the world up there now.

Grant's family are keen to work together with us (flyers, windsurfers, friends) to give Grant the best send off we can.
Details have not been fully determined yet, but so far it looks something like the following:

- there will be no funeral as such
- we will all gather at a local flying site (Warnbro, Cottesloe perhaps) for a tribute to Grant where those that want to can say some words
- we will then gather at a function room or suchlike close by (yet to be determined)
- it will most likely be Saturday or Sunday 15-16.

If anybody has any ideas or suggestions for the ceremony, the venue or anything else they would be most welcome
