I am just making early spring plans and Mauritius comes to my mind. (?)
Anybody has some experience about windsurfing at Mauritius?

From my first impression it looks promising.
Tickets from $1600 return and accomodation from $800 per fortnight.
Seems to be competitive to Maui.

Just in case somebody want to join I think about late September 2017.

Location is LE MORNE.
Accidentally at same time are planned some trainings session, so I may join, if possible, but as free rider.

I am looking at either Mauritius or New Caledonia myself for the September school holidays as my wife is a teacher (30 sep-14 oct).

Car hire in Mauritius is fairly cheap as well, about 300 AUD if you get a smaller one (if you hire gear you prob don't need to transport it).

Are you taking you own gear with you or relay on local hire shop?
What sort of gear we could use?
If my standard IS97 + 7.0 OD will be adequate for Le Morne ? taking into account usual wind and water conditions. If conditions are comparable to our Green Island ? I am not a wave sailor , so need to stay on calm water only.With 30 kg baggage allowance I hope to get my own rather.

I'm travelling back from a trip to southern Africa so will be hiring bump and jump gear from Ion Club Mauritius at Le Morne.

It looks very nice in this. Something for everyone.

I personally think 7.0 will be way to much majority of the time. Last year I spent the whole 9 days on 4.2 to 5.8 and that was only in the area in front of the ION centre as was on my own hence didn't want to go out to Manau. The year before was a bit lighter but apart from 2 days with nothing (good SUPing days) I was still only on max 5.8

I was there last year from 26 sept to 4th october, and sailed 6 days on 4.5 / 5m and 90L quad wave board. Was in Manawa wave sailing and also in Little reef jumping. Then some freestyle in the lagoon. 2 days no wind that were great for SUP.

If you bring IS97 and 7m, you can do slalom going upwind in the lagoon, but its better to stay in front of Ion Club and do some bump/jump or Little Reef.

We are coming back this year same dates, we are 11 spanish windsurfers, see you there !!!

My wife and I have just spent a week at Le Morne on Mauritius. We tacked it onto the end of a trip to Southern Africa. August is meant to be windy. I only had 2 good days sailing over the week. We still had a brilliant time despite the wind not co-operating. There is lots to do, SUPing, bush walking, sight seeing, snorkling, swimming with dolphins and whales. When the sun, wind and waves did line up yesterday, the setup at Le Morne was brilliant. You have a choice of waves at Manawa, wave jumping on Little Reef, blasting around the lagoon or if you are an expert then DTL wave riding on One Eye. The hire gear at Ion is reasonable. It's wave and bump and jump orientated with Fanatic boards and North sails one to two seasons old. I used Free Waves (106 & 116), Geckos (106 & 120) and Volt sails (6.4 and 6.9). I am 86kgs.

We just spent 6-19 Aug in Le Morne. Only missed 2 days of sailing during this time. We got ion to organise everything except flights. Stayed at Rui Creole. Probably not the cheapest option but this was definitely the kid-friendly one (we have a 2.5yr old). Can't think of any major faults..

The wind was variable so renting through ion is really handy. They "assign" you a board for the duration of your booking but let you change depending on availability. I never had a problem getting the board I wanted but that's probably coz I weigh <60kg. My regular rig was a 76L and 4.2-4.7m. Largest sail i used was a 5.7. Bring booties. Probably a sensible thing to wear lots of rocks and a fair bit of coral..

It's a good spot for flat water and wave riding and everything inbetween. I'm used to flat water but it gave me a good taste for swell and waves

Don't forget to look up when you are sailing in.... it's so crazy beautiful!!!!
