Wind came in at around 25 knots before the start.

Had no time to change down so I went out on a 7.8 and futura 122 and got destroyed, 4 big out of control stacks on the way to the first mark, could not sail deep enough to get down and around the boat so bailed and went back to ledge.

"Bjorn Dunkerbeck had a bad start to the race getting tangled and having to make a couple of jumps,"

That's a pretty cool way of getting untangled!!

Thats right. Only 2 completed the full course. Everyone else could not find the markers!

I think everyone finished the race though, as in getting back to Lano.

it wasn't a dig greenroom , simply stating the facts . and yes 2 kiters found all 4 marks as the conditions were alot different and we only had small white red bull markers .

Does anyone know what sort of top speed the fastest windsurfers recorded?

Also did they end up having boats for every mark?

I was in the kite race and trying to find the tiny white markers in a ocean full of whitecaps was totally crazy, needle in a haystack comes to mind.

Finding out that the course had been changed from what we were expecting just before the start didn't help matters.

^^^ yes windsurfers had full course same as every year

25mins

Dusta it was not much flatter, it is just that pic looks flat
I windsurfed on Fri and was on the boat on Sat.
Fri was about 6ft and Sat about 4ft (chop, actual faces, not surfer's feet lol)

chris lockwood was told he could not enter the race because they said he was a few minutes late. he was understandably gutted.
nobody had more at stake than chris in this race.
i would bet if Dunkebeck was a little late they would have allowed him to sail.

The quickest sailors will peak out just over 30 knots on the outside, and mid-thirties coming through South Passage where it smooths off.

The race winner finished in just under 25 minutes. The race distance was just under 25 km. Simple maths says that averages out to a speed of 60 km/hr (32.4 knots/hr). That's fast, especially in ocean conditions.

didnt get to see what the top sailors were using board and sail size wise and or standard or weed fins? noted the BD was on 8.6 (downhauled to look like a floppy bag!) and think I clocked somewhere Peter V was on 6.8 ish?
Wondering what the general average was.

I was at the Ledge point registration at 12.45pm and was not allowed to enter as the start had been moved forward to 1pm (as opposed to 2pm in other years).

Spewing for being late as the conditions were perfect!

was interesting to watch for a change!

I missed the race because I was doing stuff in the morning that I could have done later. Didnt expect it to be starting when it did, and got caught out. Its happened to others in the past (eg Anders).

Next year...

Well done to all the guys/gals who had a go. Party went off again. Great to catch up with the crew.
