Let's be positive. Some great and funny things will come out of the decision to make kiting an olympic sport...
1 Kiting(kitesailing) bodies and yachtie organisations having to get together - Kiting will be managed under the Yachting Australia because they do the sailing disciplines at the olympics and they have lots of RIBS. Kiting organisations will try to argue that they are in charge of kiting and fail.
Three positives - watching this, seeing the yachties deal with the kiters, seeing the kiters deal with the yachties
2 Kiters (Kitesailors) participating in the olympics will have to compete on funny looking one design equipment because it is chosen years in advance. Your everyday kiter will be very embarrassed by what these kites (kitesails) look like. Kiters will campaign every four years to change the kit used... the yachties will decide.
Positive - Watching this!!
3 International incidents will ensue when kiters tangle up in one another on olympic start lines!! Plus how the funk do you do a 720 on a kite!!?
Positives - Watching this.
Negatives - War
4 Yachting Australia will give windsurfing back to Australian Windsurfing Association meaning that we can get the national recognition and funding that we need without any yachties...
Positives -National recognition for AWA
5 Yachting Australia will take recognition from kiting bodies and piss them right off
Positives - Watching this
6 Last but not least and this gives me a warm feeling deep deep inside!! The loss of a verb and the chance to try out some new phrases...
"Hey Trendy Dave, are you going out for a sail on your kite after work today?"
"Those sails seem to be on very long strings."
"You have an inflatable mast in that kite sail. Kitesailers do it with inflatables."
"This beach has quite a lot of kitesailers at it."
"Your kitesail appears to be stuck in a tree."
To be fair, I hope that the kiters get a better go of it than we got, but that's not to say we cannot snigger occasionally at what they've let themselves in for!!
