Hi reflex
Help me out here. How do you instigate the corkscrew instead of the pole vault? Do you just turn down wind on the face of the wave?
I think I pole vault. See below.
^You should post that video as its own topic! I've seen a windsurf video with narration before!
To initiate the spin loop, think how you steer the board into position while waterstarting.. To turn the nose downwind, you slice the sail into wind while sheeting in. For even more control, you place you back foot on the board and tuck it in.. You'll turn the board so far down wind that you'll eventually need to flip the rig..
It's the same with the spinloop, you slice the sail into wind, while tucking the back foot in. This action completely changes the alignment of the board and sail, and will initiate a good rotation.. You'll hear the tern, 'scissoring' the board down wind.
Back to the waterstart analogy, once you actually decide to pull yourself up onto the board, you send the sail up and forward, while sheeting in. This rolls you over the centreline. This action is the same as a polevault. Up and over, into an endo.
This explanation is all a bit abstract, but it's often useful to look at a problem from another perspective.
In the end, if you're doing polevaults, you really need to be getting at least 400cm of air time! Yarden Meir in the video below is a great demonstration.
