Are there lots of mirrors in the gym that you go to?

I go to the gym when they have the ladies "body combat" sessions, pleasure to watch, sometimes I even think to work out...

Two kids... I'm lucky if I get time to go to the toilet each day let alone go to the gym... Although, I have been able to go sailing twice this week so I shouldn't complain....

Just go sailing more often...much more fun than the gym.
It's a harder work out in not ideal conditions and uses the right muscles for sailing....
Haven't been to the gym for 35 years now!

None.

it's mostly for overweight women & semi fit people who like to say they go - in my opinion.

depends how windy it is , if there is no wind about 4 times a week . I mostly lift things up and put them down again and chat at gym i dont think it matters to much what you do there as long as you try hard at it .

Winter only, Once a week: 10km ride up a big hill or 2km run around an oval. Once a week at the gym I do 30min of upper body workout only. The weights aren't heavy as I could operate, but it's work rate/endurance I concentrate on, so it's 30 minute solid exercise with no rests. Then, 2km on the treadmill with angle set to 2.5 to 5 degrees depending on how much I can take.

Summer is a different story. 10 sails a month. No need for gym.

I like this quote. I fall into the latter group. I would like to go 5-6 times a week and did so for about a week and a half. I get there about 3 times a week to lift heavy objects only (I have a say no to cardio policy at the gym) but still sometimes say I go 5 times plus. Found 2-3 solid 2 hour sessions of squash a week fills the gaps nicely though. The 2 pints after each session probably takes the edge of the effectiveness.

A few times a week back in the days when I used to go XCD skiing. Then I also ran bushwalked , cycled etc etc.
Now..Whats a gym? I rely on sailing too much in summer as it's too hot to do much else.In winter I prefer to keep fit doing something interesting where the scenerey etc is first and fitness just follows..bushwalking, cycle touring , skiing , kayaking etc

haven't been for around 12years. I used to train 2 days a week at the Gym 3 days a week at Taekwondo and also ride and run daily. Then I went to College and got lazy, then had a child and got more lazy, now got another child on the way and probably going to get even more lazy. Windsurfing 1-2 days a week though.

Dont get gyms, why pay money when you go for a walk or run for free??
Also get a SUP, great fun and exercise. If you want to lift weights then get a job that allows you to do it all day and get paid for it.
Much rather be outside enjoying the fresh air and sunshine. Plus gyms tend to get in the way of beer drinking.

Fast twitch and balance?

Sure, leaning in the harness and sailing back and forth is about as exhausting as playing xbox on the couch, but not everybody sails like that.

We've all heard the line that 'you can't work windsurfing muscles at the gym', but that's a total crock. It's the party line of windsurfers past their prime.

I've been hitting the gym for rehab 4 times a week. And I don't intend to stop because strength prevents injury. Brah.

I also watch movies and pickup differences between scenes (like 2 people sitting at the bar, and the content level of the glass differs between 2 camera angles). My daughter hates me pointing those things out

maybe I got too much time on my hands

I go about 5 times... only 3 of those are heavy sessions though. Mostly do strength on the heavy days, and on the other 2 do core/balance related things. Probably get more out of core work then anything else in windsurfing... haha. I don't go sailing everyday though... if I did I wouldn't hit the gym that much.

I have never been to the gym and don't intend to. I'd get bored in a gym in 5 minutes.
If excercise isn't challenging for both mind and body I don't do it.

I try to get in 2 weight sessions a week. I've had a long break and I miss it. I'm not into body building so much as de-wimping. It has a nice anti-depressant effect too, more so than cycling.

For older guys weight bearing exercise is particularly beneficial. It keeps your strength up but less obviously it keeps your bones hard and your hormone (testosterone) levels up and that just makes life better.

Having done the Gym thing many years ago i have a couple of things to say. I now windsurf which is great for the back muscles and arms and legs. For chest i do 100 pushups a day split 40/30/30 over the day. Pushups are better than bench presses as they also work the core (same as when doing planks).I do 100 body squats 40/30/30 and 120 situps. I get outside and mountainbike ride. Go the green Gym and have fun. Go to the beach, run, do burpeezes (100 of these are a killer exercise). Outdoors is better for your mental health, no mirrors and its free.

For people who don't sail much, gym exercises is a good substitute. Nothing worse than rocking up to a honkin winter session and your body isn't up to it.

Just want to ad nothing against Gyms(all exercise is good.) Just saying there are good alternatives which can save time as getting ready and travelling to Gyms can be time consuming. Just don't forget the old fashion stuff can be done anywhere and anytime.

I'm a big manly bogan windsurfer rah rah rah gyms are for faggs and kiterfaggs are faggs so that means gyms are for faggy kitefaggs..

Seriously, this forum is pretty repetitious and fairly boring some times. I think there has been a couple of other fitness threads in the past few years. If somebody even considers getting fitter after browsing then it'll help them windsurf and who knows what else. That's what it's all about.

I'd consider going to the gym if I was doing activities that don't involve physical exertion... kiting, chess, macrame, that sort of stuff.
