Recently found that I have an inguinal hernia-direct. Mildly symptomatic but no pain at the moment. 2cm swelling recedes when lying down.
I expect others have had this problem - would appreciate comments on whether you were able to continue windsurfing while waiting for surgery.
Also whether you had laparoscopic or open surgery and recovery time you required.
Many thanks.
i know someone who sailed for a couple of years while waiting for public hossie surgery for one. it was up near belly button and very noticeable, like a large grapefruit poking out. he seemed to be okay
Ask your doctor. Perhaps you can use some form support webbing like a kidney belt that off road motorcylists use to keep everything in place.
I'm in the same boat, my tear is slightly larger and I have a bit of pain which is really bad if I try and run(which I do). I'm still sailing and doing everything as I normally would, plus a bit more just to see what happens.
Ok, thanks all - I've got a support belt on the way which I hope I can get to work pretty well together with the harness.
I plan to get the op in about 6 weeks but good to know from the replies that I can probably safely have a few sails till then.
