Can't seem to find any info online, so can someone tell me if a NP Hellcat will rig nicely on RDM Ezzy mast? All the specs are fine -6.2 on a 4.30 mast- but just wondering about the curve and feel when rigged on the Ezzy.
Thanks in advance.
Pryde sails rig best on pryde masts " flex top"
The ezzy is a constant curve mast so there lies the problem, I would imagine the loose leach would not go as close to the luff pocket as would with a pryde mast.
Not sure how it would change the feel but maybe you would lose some wind range.
look at this thread and save the table , looks like a 'so-so' match

unless you're into top end speed sailing I wouldn't worry so much about the mast, as long as it fits ![]()
Pryde masts are stiffer in the bottom and softer at the top.
A Hellcat on a proper 12% c/c mast will rig with a flatter belly and a tighter leech so both less grunt and less breathing. If you rig with enough down haul to get a loose leech the belly will be too flat and if you use less down haul to get some grunt the centre of lift will move up.
That graph could be very handy- but how accurate. I have a 5.7 Gaastra rigged on a 4.30 Ezzy RDM mast, and according to the graph is a red box of death, yet it feels great to me, perhaps my most comfortable combo. The Hellcat / Ezzy combo at least gets a yellow box and one plus. I'm starting to like Seanhogans' "as long as it fits" theory. Bit of a gamble though...![]()
I have a couple of Hellcats Phil. Lets rig one up and see how it feels when we are next gunna do a flat water stint. What year model are you looking at?
I think your Gaastra may feel better then your ezzys (on the ezzy mast) due to the inbuilt luff curve in your ezzys. You Gaastra prob feels lighter (cos it is) and flicks it's battens easier as it doesnt have the built in camber in the luff. This may give the illusion that it suits the mast better perhaps? dunno, lets rig her up today and have a look.
From that table the ezzy's seem to have one of the most acceptable masts around
See you round 230 for a run in the suds
I will record all the carnage on camera for your future reference
