Harness line position

I've always hard mine set up close to where my hands are on the boom about an inch or two in
Can sail no hands no worries and one handed jumps sweet. Have noticed a lot of guys now have them close together. What's the reason/ benefit for this?

It's so you can sheet the rig in/out much more easily, downside is it's probably not quite as stable but if you do freestyle or sail in waves where you often pump the rig to get onto waves etc in marginal conditions it helps a lot.
