Hi guys,

It's September and we still have daily wind of around 20 knots. Last weekend we had great conditions for some free style practising. It was all about spin loops and body drags and lots of crashes :)

Are you implying its not as windy as he says? I'm not sure if you could do a body drag in 5 knots of wind with what looks like to be a 5m sail and an 80 litre board but I could not.

Not at all I was thinking that flat water with no white caps and very flat would be appealing to GPS sailors and also trying to work out what was causing it to be so flat.

You should not instantly assume a negative, I know seabreeze is very negative no need to add to it. I was just surprised at the water state considering as you point out the sailing being done.

Maybe you could explain to me why the water is so flat?

it's because it's indonesia.... flat water is common over there just don't drink it...

Your post appeared to sceptical of the statement of a twenty knot wind with flat water. Sorry if it was not. Perhaps the water is flat because the water is reasonably shallow and the wind is coming over a sandbar and is offshore?

Looks like a beautiful spot!! I'd give my left kidney to be able to have a holiday in a place like that, although I'm going to trial bay in 2 weeks. maybe I should count my blessings.

for those questioning the wind strength, it's an offshore breeze in shallow water. It's not impossible to look like that in 20 knots.

Good to see so many comments on my post! Yep, it was definitely 20 knots. We had quite some days of 25 knots and even up to 30 knots. I windsurf on a little island practically laying in between the islands of Java and Bali, right where the winds are strongest after having been funnelled between the mountains on both sides. It'a a little bit like Tarifa where the wind is funnelled between the south of Spain and the north of Morocco. The island is called Tabuhan Island. Nobody lives there, no scooters, no nothings, except for some birds. Unfortunately there are no waves, but on the downwind side of the island you see its super flat. On both the north side and the south side of this tiny speck of land, there is some great bump-n-jump conditions. The water is super clean and turquoise coloured over the reef. The last 3 seasons we had wind from May until the end of October, almost every day. I actually have been kitesurfing in Bali since 2003, but my first love was windsurfing. Since I realised there was so much wind at this spot, I haven't been kitesurfing much anymore :) Perhaps see you guys here some time. I would love to share this spot with some other riders! The board is 84 liters, the sail is a 5.3 and rider weight about 76 kg.

How hard is it to get the windsurfing gear to Indo?.....Virgin allow boards I think...At least its easier to travel with an 80l board and a 5.0 than big gear.

You don't need big gear windsurfing at this spot. This season I have mainly used sails between 4.5 and 5.3 and my boards are all around 85 l. We opened a little resort named Bangsring Breeze and when you stay with us, you can use my gear. Garuda Indonesia actually is very accommodating with regards to bringing any sport equipment into Indonesia. I believ you are now getting up top 35 kg for sports equipment in addition to your regular baggage allowance. You can easily reach this spot by flying from Denpasar (Bali) to Banyuwangi (East Java), by Garuda Indonesia. The flight takes about 20 minutes, they fly daily. On the airport you will be picked up by my driver. He will drive you to our place in about 40 minutes. The plane leaves Bali at around 07.30 am and you can be windsurfing at Tabuhan before 12.00 noon. Greetings Jeroen

Here a friend of mine is riding his 4.5 pretty well powered up. It's a home made sail hence the funny leech flopping. Where in my earlier posts you saw very flat water, on the north tip of the island you will have great bump and jump conditions :)
