'And I think it was 1992, or 1993, when I finally perfected the windsurfing sail' - David Ezzy![]()
(Interesting vid btw.)
Must have been amazing to be at the coal face of the sport in the early days! Marketing and branding is not ezzy's strength, he should do more videos like this. The ezzy factory story is a bi of good story also if you care or are interested who makes your gear and where it comes from.
Me and a few mates were sailing from Kanaha and had been up near Camp One when we came back down to near Kooks back in 2006 for a break. Dave Ezzy was teaching his young daughter how to windsurf. He walked past us and started talking to us asking how our Ezzy sails were. He actually took the time and re-rigged every sail as we had not been given the batten tuning keys in the package from HISS.
He was pissed off to say the least!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the secret was batten tension and outhaul. Really nice bloke and apparently went into the shop and had a dummy spit. Very passionate about his sails, nice to see!!!!!!
He is a really good guy on the beach, listen to you, response to question, great guy! However, on a wave...he snakes waves...don't respect priorities...he should work on this now! LOL. However I like his sails, hope his elite still have that super range!!
Haha I was going to say the same thing. At hookipa he's more than happy to show you how much he "loves to windsurf" on EVERY wave possible. The worst snake I've seen there. Then when you call him off he shoots you a look like "do you know who I am???"
I love Dave Ezzy so much I would have his baby. I write emails to him sometimes and he always writes back.
Interesting stuff, especially comments such as ''we don't do race sails as they have such a limited shelf life, and don't suit recreational sailors'....so true...
I like the no BS philosophy ....it may mean that that Ezzy won't ever have the world speed sailing record , or 17 models of sail that change ever year claiming to be just sooooo much better than last years! it's a crap business model, but I'm sure he sleeps well at night....
