The sign says you can't kite in the inlet. Sorry Joeyjojo but windsurfing is completely legit - especially at the point. Been happening there for >20 years and hasn't been banned despite some people trying. Its also a marine access point for boats.

There's going to be people out when its windy. I was there over the weekend and there were surfers, windsurfers, kiters, stand up paddlers, swimmers, ocean kayakers and people on jetskis. I even saw a small shark.

Unfortunately its just a crowded spot.

If we're all careful there won't be any collisions.

Exactly I was down there today and there is definitely no signs. Looks like another person that thinks you can go and buy a short board and own the break. Get used to it. There is going to be windsurfers from time to time and sups by the hundred.

P.s... born over the road from the alley at lacey's........... just concerned with some dick moves sailing so close to an area where there are (3)surf schools and kids ; and there is so much more ocean for windsurfers to access instead of hugging the point. regardless if its prohibited or not> just common sense i would have thought!

this seems to relate to commercial activities ....like selling Taco from a windsurfing board .......where as you seem to be suggesting a ban to try to limit the idiots putting other water users at risk ......I am pretty sure that battle was lost long ago in Brisvegas and related suburbs...on the upside...it does suggest that windsurfing is growing in the mighty state of Qld.

I think most of the young surfers out at the Alley that day would have been watching in awe, as they probly never actually seen one in real life before, only in old black and white photo's.

I rarely get on this forum (and as long time Currumbin local too) I think you need to cut them some slack.
My young son was learning to surf on that particular day (as we do every day).
It was like 2 foot of swell and 20 plus knots of wind. Hardly great surfing conditions in my books.
I didn't see any particular incidents where a windsurfer was of any concern.
Most times they stay wide of the pack of surfers (and are great short board surfers when they are not
windsurfing).
There is never any 'wave jumping' at the alley as the wind is too light on the inside.

Importantly, how often do you see them out there?
On average, Maybe like once a week in summer (at best) and only ever after midday

The alley is busy. I can't even get a carpark these days.
You must know of the huge subdivision not far off construction at Cobaki Lakes, with more people expected to use this beach in the near future.

Posting stuff like this just puts up barriers.
Sure there is a minority that spoil it for the majority, however lets looks at the bigger picture and promote mutual respect regardless whether you are a boatie, paddle boarder, sup, windsurfer or whatever.

PS my father made mention of Michael Peterson windsurfing the alley back in the early 1980's? so it not 'new' thing.
If you know of him, he was one of the greatest old school surfers from the Gold Coast.
I can think of a handful of other great surfers that windsurfed the alley at some time when the conditions were more suited to windsurfing.

I hope everyone can continue to happily co-exist and be respectful / non discriminatory of other sports.

yes, i whinged a while back about crossing the river mouth and with good reason! way to many close calls with guys not looking, or caring!
And Yes, lots of surfers do or have dabbled in Windsurfing > at the alley. MP was there, and sailing with no one out!

Point im trying to make or try to understand is - why do windsurfers decide that they want to go through the line up, at the point, when its just as easy to sail around laceys, away from everyone. Is it a beginner thing? Ego? or just a couple of retards that really dont care!
