Well done Tom! Is that Australia's first individual gold medal for the games?

Yes, our only other gold is a relay team in the pool...

Should be a few more sailing medals coming up with the 49er's and Men's 470 Aussies :-)

Congrats indeed!

And congrats to Cyprus for silver - their first medal in any sport, ever. Nice to see elation at silver, instead of tears like some.....

oh.. and looks like also in the women's matchracing!

Not sure how to pick that. The girl's have won every race so far but now they go to a knockout series, so maybe early-form isn't an indicator of the medals? ZERO coverage of it anyhow... blargghh.

Hopefully we get to see the RS:X medal races tomorrow!!

Congrats to Tom for a great and overdue win!

He is a fellow Central Coast sailor who I have seen many times out practicing in Lasers, A-class Cats and the Super Light Carbon Moth (which has a foil-keel). He certainly puts in the hours.

A 5 times world champion, who can pretty much sail anything including a sailboard. His girlfriend is the Italian windsurfer Flavia Tartaglini.

Well done Tom.

Well done Tom! One of the great wins I reckon. He did what he had to do in the medal race brilliantly and didn't risk going for glory by trying to win the race.

That was a great match-racing win in that last race.
Good aggressive sailing from both Tom and the Cypriot.

No wonder they want him on Oracle for America's Cup

Onya Tom!

Top tactical sailing by Tom.
I did feel a bit sorry for the Cypriot when I heard they had never won a medal. He didn't stand a chance for the gold with the way Tom was covering him.
Looks like he'll be feted by the whole country for winning silver anyway.
Well done to all competitors. It's a huge achievement just to be able to represent your country at the Olympics.
