May have already posted this, (obviously new!) My Bombora Astrotoy has broken! I need a new but hopefully used mast foot, therefore also extension and mast,seeing as though have been living in the 80s for the past 30 yrs( and they no longer exist ! )

Me to... but your old **** should still work with modern stuff. Mast tracks are the same. I'm still using an extension and base from the 80s. Go Spandau Ballet.

True! But my mast is single piece 4.25m long and 48 mm at the foot. Apparently all the new mast feet and masts are 46mm. So non-interchangable!

The board rocks though , I overtook one of the new boards on a 4.7 north sail from 89

Tape around the mast base will make it tight enough. 2mm is stuff-all

Of just get a newer mast sail / extension etc. A full 1990's rig should be free.

Wow I'm talking to you? You're the first one on this thread . As I've said, old gear breaks, but that's a great idea. Everyone else says buy new stuff, but thanks for the tip. Problem remains i still need a new mast foot.

Right now there are 200 forum members desperately biting their tongue that want to tell you that you don't know what you are missing out on and that you should go and buy yourself some modern gear. (And many of them, including me, used to own an Astrotoy.) Anything second hand up to 10 years old is good and can be purchased very economically. If you like the Astrotoy (95L?), then a freeride or slalom board around 100L would suit. I would view the broken and irreplaceable mast foot as providence of the sailing gods.

Rock on Harrow! Night and day between old and new gear. Unfortunately newer gear can be fairly pricey, but worth the money. Depends on how new you're wanting go. Some seem to learn on older gear and then graduate to modern gear, unless you take lessons from a school then they are most likely using modern gear anyway. The modern gear is so much more user friendly.

For the twist-in quick-release base, anything that old (even if unused) would have a high chance of random breakage. You can simply unscrew the current bit on the bottom of the universal and put on something like this:

Also well worth considering changing the rubber universal joint if it is of similar age.

Probably just buy a complete new extension/universal/base and shim it out as Markaustralia said.

^^^^ even if it was brand new, that is some terrible design just asking for a failure.
Getting something, anything that's from this century (2000's) would be so worth it, and so much easier to use, you'd be kicking yourself for not doing it sooner.

Hi, I was talking to you the other day when you broke it. I have a sleeve adapter that fits the old mast to enable the mast extension to fit if you are still looking for one. Can't help with the base though.

Indeed, you could probably, using what I am providing for free, retrofit your existing pink extension with the Tyronsea unit, I think you just need to fit the Tyronsea brass bolt to the base of the existing "bombora" universal and then whammy you are away..The brass piece is brand new just acquired from Mr Kelf.

The Tyronsea mast base unit was the best unit in 1986-1988, before I stopped windsurfing..I restarted in 2014 and it still isn't bad particularly as it is free. Photos below:

Does the brass bolt go inside or under the blue plastic on your extention? Thanks for responding a week ago, I've totally not missed the internet for the past week!

Hi everyone thanks for all the advice, it's all sorted now. Thanks to a garage sale and an extention, foot and base that fit my mast, all for $20, I'm back on the water! Yes I'm still looking for newer stuff, but what I have on the water now, works now! Thanks all, see you out there

Sorry, I missed your email as I was sailing in the Bunbury and return yacht race. The whole thing is available for free as shown "as is, where is". The blue plastic needs removal and then the brass bolt gets fitted to the base with a yellow fitting which I am missing. You should be able to get one "yellow fitting" somewhere. Thats is it "as is, where is"
