I have an Arrows europin base that I'd like to replace the tendon on (it is only my spare, but still...)

Unlike every other mast base it has the bolts that go thru the tendon from the same side - in line with each other - not 90deg opposed like all the others. [}:)]
Arrows is out of business........ so hmmmm.

Then I saw Billows is the same setup and looks very much like a copy of the Arrows base. I am considering seeing if the shops who stock Billows have those tendons........ but am concerned if it may be Chinese knock-off crap.
Like most cheaper things from China it will either be rubbish, or it will be the exact same thing from the same factory but branded differently and much cheaper.

Has anyone here used a Billows base with tendon for ages withd no snapping?

Or does anyone know of a quality replacement tendon where the holes are not 90deg opposed? I've only even used Chinook and Streamlined and never had a breakage, some did 3 or 4yrs...... so not inclined to buy Billows unless it is the only option

I think you will find the arrows base comes from Billows.....also by the way it is made in Taiwan not China......I guess Neil Pryde, Gasstra, Loft, Severne etc etc are all crap too as they are all made in China as well.

The old bic bases were set up like that (parallel) and you used to be able buy red (soft) or black (hard). Might be another option.

Cheers

If you read my post properly you will see I said the cheaper stuff is often exactly identical and from the same factory, but with a different brand on it. However some places also do copies that are total junk.
It is impossible to tell without trying it.
Thus I pretty much asked 'who has tried it?' as the internet is a wonderful information source.
You were going to be the first place I tried if I can't find one locally, but given the exceptional success I've had with Chinook and Streamlined tendons I was not going to buy the relative newcomer to the market without checking it out first.

Thanks to those with helpful suggestions, Ian I got the Arrows base at 2ndwind a few years back, so have sent Jez an email.
Grumple, I knew the mast was good, seems all their stuff is looking better.....

No he's after quality I believe Having said that if you read the brochure I bet NP tendons will make you sail faster, jump higher, assist in pulling off your first triple forward and are far more developed than last years model

More important than the bolt holes aligned is the diameter of the tendon they come in different sizes also the diameter of the bolt holes again they are different the last tendon I replaced I found the bolt holes to be a very tight fit.

^^^ Better a tight fit than loose, I expect if its loose it will tear easily. My chinook replacement tendons are a really tight fit. I read somewhere on one of the forums about someone using the wrong tendon with loose holes, it didnt last long at all.

I think you are right. I needed a spay of McLube to enable the bolts to slide in so it is nice and tight.
