The website supporting the Downunder Pro regatta at Hawks Nest, January 24th to 27th 2017 is slowly getting updated. It now contains correct information under the "Race Office" menu item - Notice of Race, Entry Form, Entry List and Event Schedule.

This website is being converted from a predominantly formula windsurfing site to a regatta site supporting ALL competing classes. For 2017 the competing classes are : Formula Windsurfing and Raceboard.

Other information on this site is either old or not correct yet, but hopefully over the next week these items will be fixed. It was felt that it is better to get the NOR & entry sections available ASAP rather than wait for the whole site to be updated.

The entry form will direct you to PayPal - money will be transferred to the Windsurfing NSW paypal account. Note that the entry list is not automatically updated when you enter for the regatta - for some reason the list is not currently linked to the entry process. I will need to update the list manually - probably once per day.

Looking forward to seeing at Hawks Nest.

News years resolution is to stop being scared

So Formula it is.

Entered Formula this year. Will be racing against my son who will be coming directly from the Oz youth championships down in SA Adelaide. I'm excited. There is a pre event BBQ on beach on Monday and a full dinner on Friday at end of event all covered in entry fee also. See you there.

Day One of the 2017 Downunder Pro saw flukey,shifty winds up to maybe 12 knots at times. Unfortunately not enough consistent wind for a formula race but three raceboard races were completed. Ex-world champion Max Wojcik (now from QLD) dominated in the light wind racing with 3 bullets, followed by Sydney's Lea Sitja and Richie Reynolds.

Raceboard Results:

No racing on day 2 of the Downunder Pro regatta - the wind reached a maximum of about 5 knots early in the day and it was all downhill from there! Fingers crossed for some wind tomorrow.

A full quota of races for both the formula fleet and the raceboard fleet today at Hawks Nest. The grey, overcast conditions produced some puffy winds from the SW with some challenging water conditions.

Full on day. 4 Raceboard races and 5 formula races. 7-12 knot NW winds which made the racing really tight and challenging. Wind is now looking better for tomorrow also, so potentially another full days racing ahead.

The final day of the 2017 Downunder Pro regatta saw light NE winds up to maybe 13 knots at times. The smooth water but light winds saw maximum rig sizes being used in the formula fleet and a lot of pumping in the raceboard fleet. Two formula races and three raceboard races extracted the most of the conditions in the time available.

In the final washup, Leo Sharpe form QLD scored the Oceanic crown in the formula fleet, from Brett Morris and Byron McIlveen.
In the free formula fleet Lara O'Brien came out on top from Alex Halank and Shari O'Brien.
In the raceboard fleet Max Wojcik scored an amazing 10 wins from 10 races, however it was Lea Sitja from Sydney who was crowned the Oceanic Champion followed by Richie Reynolds and James Grunfelder.

A big thanks to John O'Brien and his race crew for looking after all things on the water.

A scoring error in the last race for the free formula fleet has been corrected. The overall placings have remained the same as before.
