I'm curious about the top speeds that people get on the smaller Slingshot foils, in particular the i65 and the Warp Speed 65. 5x10 second or nautical mile speeds, or links to tracks on ka72 or movescount, would be great (since watches sometimes have spikes that overstate speed by a few knots). Any comments on how these two foils behave, especially compared to foils like the Starboard GT-R, would also be great.

I've tried to push the Time Code 68 a bit, and while it has a cruising speed that's a couple of knots higher than the i84, it is not easy to make it go faster than the i76. Could be I'm limited by my board, though (71 cm older slalom board).

Should board width or size matter?
For early planing allowing foils to lift, yes.
Seems the faster course race foilers on 650-750 sq.cm. foils approach fast freeride windsurf speeds on a reach, and of course beat Formula at all angles.
I am still thinking of picking up a 600 sq foil to improve speed on my Naish setup...but haven't pulled the trigger.

I don't have GPS but I have both the infinity 65 and warpspeed 65. Warpspeed is faster, about as faster as a full speed windsurfer on freestyle gear. The board needs to be a planing speed for it to lift onto the foil.

The infinity 65 is about 15-20% slower and foils up prior to planing speed, and foils through lulls much better.

I haven't used the warpspeed since the infinity 65 came out.

I've cranked the SS foils semi-seriously a few times on the ocean with wave sails - you might add a knot or two with a good cam sail on flat water.

84 - 19.5 knots
76 - 21.5 knots
TC68 - 20 knots
65 - 23.5 knots (Tim has done 24+ on the river)

That's intense JJ, I lost my oakley sunglasses trying that on a 1m wave The lift from a wave on the 76 is amazing.
Even doing that on flat water sheeting in hard with the back hand gives me that rollercoaster feel.

As a side note does anyone have any good ideas to keep sunglasees from coming off when you crash. I had a titauim leash on my sunglasses but I need a floaty one or tie it off to my lifejacket somehow?

Hi Peter, if you are looking for a bit of speed on a foil and $$$$ are an issue a second hand NP F4 would be a good option if you can find one and they came with 2 front wings. Some people have lengthened the fuse for more stability and up wind ability but a very fast foil out of the box. The GTR that I have is quite quick but make sure you get the 255 stabiliser with it if you go that way. The big stabiliser will launch you as soon as you try to go across the wind powered up. Me and Stroppo found that out first time out on them. The Naval base on Garden island thought they were under attack from bouncing bombs. We both headed back in and changed to the 255.
No idea about the i65 but Slugger didn't like the warp speed and got rid of it.

Your speeds on the TC68 and i84 are about 3 knots faster than what I get, hence my suspicion that my board may be limiting. More likely, it's my technique . But I also saw that the top end for the TC68 is pretty close to the i84. Considering that the large foil would typically be slower, I guess that reflects some improvements in the foil design over time. The 65 would be expected to be faster than the 76 just because it is smaller, and the shape is closer to race foils which would also make it faster, so a couple of knots more than the 76 makes sense.

How about the bottom - what's the minimum speed for stable foiling? I did a couple of sessions with the TC68 with GPSLogit announcing speeds. For my 95 kg, the TC68 starts to come up at 10 knots and is stable at 11. The i84 is a few knots lower. How about the i65? There's definitely some weight dependence there, too - I'm usually a couple of knots faster than my (much lighter) wife, even if I'm on i84 and she is i76.

To who have the i76 and i65 used one big question:
I just have the i76 since half a year round about with 40 + x sessions....so I'm just quite save on that wing with sails from 4,0 and 6,9.

We have partly a huge windrange at our lake.
Sometimes I started with 6,9 on i76 (Wizard 125) and when when the wind growed up extremely until now I changed to a 111L JP Magic Ride with the same sail and continued the session. Same worked also with 5,7.

With more foil experience I think about changing the construct:
Instead of picking up my 111L Windsurfboard when the wind grows up, I have the idea to change simply the wing from i76 to the I65.
Has anyone experience about the windrange of the wings (i76 and i65) with the same sail?
With which sail sizes is the wing compatible?
How easy or difficult is the wing to fly?

And one question by the way: Wyatt gives a speedrange up to 30 knots in his presentation. Is this only marketing or a possible speed to reach?
I just got 21,59 knots on the i76, friend of me just round about 22 knots. But more we don't reach durrently.

I really need to work on my foiling speed. I've got the gybes and duck gybes sorted but rarely hit over 20 knots on a 10 sec average. My best 2 sec speed is normally as I enter a gybe. Any tips on how to foil fast?

My local spots are quite gusty and my best ever speeds have been in a steady 14 knot wind with a big wide board. This was my best session in 2018 when I was #19 in the world :)

My sail sizes - I like foiling powered up - I'm 80kgs.

Infinity 76
Wind;
10 knots - 5.9m
15 knots - 5m
20 knots - 4.5m

Infinity 65
Wind;
15 knots - 5m (foils through 12 knot lulls)
20 knots - 5m
25 knots - 4.5m
30 knots - 3.7m

65 is a little harder than the 76 to get going in 12-15 knots (but not much).

Wind 15-20 knots - they're both equally easy to ride. Wind above 20 knots - the 65 is easier.

You can often handle another 5 knots of wind by changing to the 65 wing - much quicker than changing sails



Used both wings today - both are awesome to carve downwind but you can crank harder, sharper turns with the 65

I cranked out 27.2 knots on the NP/F4 it wasn't even that windy (I was on a 7.7) towards the end of the run, I got the speed wobbles and tomahawked my head onto the mast....Haven't been right since, lol.

Yeah thats me! I do across / little downwind - Slalom course. There's basically one direction thats really powered up, thats where I go hahah. The "slingshot" when bearing away is important! My board is quite narrow, but I'm completely on the rail with my sail closed. I did 53kph today with exactly the same setup, 17-25 knots of wind and 3.8!

I think for speed some key pointers are:
- Have a wide stance, personally I put my backfoot quite far back on the board (further back than I would normally in any other direction), and my front foot lodged all the way against the front of the frontstrap. My board has a center backstrap (for jumping hehe) so my backfoot is strapless on the rail. I like my back foot that far back because if I crash its never from being too high and foiling out, but rather when I get a gust coming in from behind and it lifts me upright, pushing the nose down (and putting the handbrake on instantly...). Putting the foot further back allows to keep the board flying through those gusts without problems.
- Have your harnesslines dead centered, I can ride without hands across / little upwind in the lulls for like 20 seconds, try clapping in front and behind your back for 3-4 times, if you can its good, if you cant you should do something about your trim.
- Keep your weight in the sail, whatever you do, as long as you keep your weight out and in the sail your board will go fast and stay stable longitudinally. Flex your knees if you get lifted to keep the weight in the sail and push the nose down. Always keep the sail closed.
- pull your downhaul, loose leech is your friend because it makes your sail softer. Gusts will be a lot less brutal if you have more downhaul, allowing you to focus on your board and not having your weight thrown about every time you enter a gust.

When you get that done its a matter of finding the perfect gusts. I have set my last record on flat water (offshore), but the 53 from today and the 58 below were with a lot of chop onshore.


I had an LK1 before this one, with a JP135 and an (8.6) TurboGT aswell funnily enough. My record is 58kph (~31.5knots) on that kit (600 wing) in similar wind (15-20kts) but cant seem to find that anywhere...

As I have round 90 kg my sail sizes are round about one qm more: 6,9 / 5,7, / 4,7 / 4,0
But since I'm foiling I guess I'm really bad in estimating the windranges.
Out of my feeling I'd like to say that I use the I76 in the following Windranges:

8 - 14: 6,9 m?
12 - 16: 5,7 m?
14 - 20: 4,7 m?
18 - 25 + x: 4,0 m?

Is it out of our experience possible to use the Infinity 65 at 5 knots higher Windrange?
Would mean:

Just my opinions, others have different foiling styles.
Nobody has been foiling long enough to have definitive answers - we're all learning

Yes, if I'm overpowered I'm more likely to change to the 65 than change to a smaller sail.
With 16 knots of wind and a 5.7m, I might not be overpowered on the 76 - but I'd still change to the 65 to go faster and turn tighter.

No - but I'm sure it would be fine on flat water for flying back and forth. Not so good in ocean swells.

But if this a feasable option the above windrange is is exact that where I take then my 111L Windsurf Board.

I would just take your Wizard 125 if you want 1 board - keep the same sail and swap to the 65 if you're overpowered on the 76.

Above 18 knots the I65 is easy - just give it a couple of sessions to get used to it.

As you're asking specific questions I've answered (in bold) next to your questions.
Just my opinions, others have different foiling styles.
Nobody has been foiling long enough to have definitive answers - we're all learning



When I look to the sail sizes it seems that the switch of the wing from I76 to I65 works if the wind is growing up by round 5 knots.
Is this correct? Round about?
Yes, if I'm overpowered I'm more likely to change to the 65 than change to a smaller sail.
With 16 knots of wind and a 5.7m, I might not be overpowered on the 76 - but I'd still change to the 65 to go faster and turn tighter.

Have you ever tried the I65 with your 5,9 light wind sail as not listed there?
No - but I'm sure it would be fine on flat water for flying back and forth. Not so good in ocean swells.

As I have round 90 kg my sail sizes are round about one qm more: 6,9 / 5,7, / 4,7 / 4,0
But since I'm foiling I guess I'm really bad in estimating the windranges.
Out of my feeling I'd like to say that I use the I76 in the following Windranges:
8 - 14: 6,9 m?
12 - 16: 5,7 m?
14 - 20: 4,7 m?
18 - 25 + x: 4,0 m?

Is it out of our experience possible to use the Infinity 65 at 5 knots higher Windrange?
Would mean:
12 - 19: 6,9 - My guess ok but probably not ideal at 19 knots - though it's not hard to de-power the rig and keep foiling.
17 - 21: 5,7 - My guess fine - especially up and downwind at 20+ knots.
19 - 25: 4,7 - Perfect
23- 28 + x: 4,0 - Perfect

But if this a feasable option the above windrange is is exact that where I take then my 111L Windsurf Board.
So it could work perfect to change the wing in 2 mins instead rigging another sail or picking up all the time a second windsurf board with me...
I would just take your Wizard 125 if you want 1 board - keep the same sail and swap to the 65 if you're overpowered on the 76.

My flown gybes with the I76 are around 90% save (when I have enough wind) and I can gybe in a relaxed mode.
So from my level I do not expect big issues to learn to fly also the I65.
Above 18 knots the I65 is easy - just give it a couple of sessions to get used to it.

What is your setup regarding a strong wind windsurfbaord with fin surfing?

I'm really aware that different weigths, conditions (we have only flatwater) and skills are influencing the wind-, sail- and foilrange.
So there is no guarantee but we're also learning with new stuff and on the foil we learn mostly much quicker is my detection.
Especially all my friends with the SS foils the skills are growing up in a phantastic quick way.

When I collect your answers and all other topics I readed it is a very realistic option to switch simple the wing from 76 to 65 and cover more and more days with one sail without a windsurf-fin-board !! That are great news !!

So when I understood it correct the I65 is also fine with a bit more wind as above mentioned.
Now I created a very therotecial table.

So with the I76 + I65 it is feasable to cover a big range with one sail
(90 KG / Wizard 125 / Flatwater)

Sail Knots
6,9: 8 - 18
5,7: 12 - 23
4,7: 14 - 28
4,0: 18 - 30 +
3,3: Let's see..never used until now :-)

- Keep your weight in the sail, whatever you do, as long as you keep your weight out and in the sail your board will go fast and stay stable longitudinally. Flex your knees if you get lifted to keep the weight in the sail and push the nose down. Always keep the sail closed.
- pull your downhaul, loose leech is your friend because it makes your sail softer. Gusts will be a lot less brutal if you have more downhaul, allowing you to focus on your board and not having your weight thrown about every time you enter a gust.

When you get that done its a matter of finding the perfect gusts. I have set my last record on flat water (offshore), but the 53 from today and the 58 below were with a lot of chop onshore.


I had an LK1 before this one, with a JP135 and an (8.6) TurboGT aswell funnily enough. My record is 58kph (~31.5knots) on that kit (600 wing) in similar wind (15-20kts) but cant seem to find that anywhere...

Thanks for the tips! The slingshot explains why I am seeing my best speeds going into a gybe. When you're reaching or slightly downwind do you have the board flat or angled like you would going upwind?

I've been chickening out on a reach by putting my back foot in the centre and opening the sail.

My board is pretty much flat until I start going 45+, then it gets more and more roll towards me. It feels more controllable that way!
