Boards seem to be getting shorter and shorter. I think foiling is really revolutionizing the spot, in the sense you dont need a big van and 10 sails to enjoy the wind. A board like the slingshot Wizard 105(5'10") or RRD pocket rocket and say a 4m & 5m sail could give you a lot of range like 12-25kts for a compatent foiler. I think this is giving people who drive small vehicles a chance to fit similar short foil boards in a car. I drive a mid-sized sedan and measured the other day for curiosity and it would fit the 5'10" wizard with the front seat manipulated. And a couple of small sails ,mast and boom dont take up much space(keeping vision safety on the road in mind).
Interested to hear or see what vehicles you fit your short foil boards in. Of course the wizard 103 could basically fit in any car

Ps, sorry for only mentioning slingshot and RRD. I'm sure there are other short foil boards out there I just don't know about(please share).

A starboard foil 177 fits in my Prius plus 8m rig. But no room left for passengers. Should be no problem with the wizard and pocket rocket.

I don't know some inflatables are still pretty big even when uninflated

They claimed to be releasing new shapes in the spring but crickets on their FB page unfortunately.

RRD has an entire package including a board as noted above. It all goes in your car.



Slingshot also has the Wizard 103 and the new free style boards. These boards can be as short as 5 1/2 feet long. Lots of vehicles will accommodate them.

My wizard 125 fits in my car and I have just ordered the rrd compact free foil rigs. 4.0 5.0 and 5.8. No need for a van anymore ! that will save me a fortune

I am loving everything about the short boards. I've got a 6'6" and it stores so well! The other great thing is I've realized that despite having a four sail quiver, I only need two, the other two are overkill. This would have been my dream 20 years ago!

2 sails during the meat of the season, one for the offseason, and one for the rare nuclear days.
Lots of slappers carry TWO sails.

My old Honda Civic Hatchbacks easily holds inside, my 8'9" slalom board, my 8'2" wave board, 2 booms, 3 masts, and 4 sails.
Plus room for a passenger behind the driver.

Yup decades ago i drove a giant vehicle full of sails and boards to the beach. I got skunked more then than I do now. I can't say I miss I miss it much at all.

Yup decades ago i drove a giant vehicle full of sails and boards to the beach. I got skunked more then than I do now. I can't say I miss I miss it much at all.

So can we now say foiling is the "greener" option? At this stage you only need one board and can downsize to a more economical vehicle. And then you don't need to travel long distances for more wind, bigger waves or flatter water. Win, win. Greta will approve.

(I'd hate to think how many tonnes of Co2 are floating up there in the atmosphere due to my past windsurfing excursions. Just one tankful produces about 150 kg of CO2. It stays up there for a hundred years or so doesn't it?)

I have also owned many vehicles purely for my sports. Mountain biking , windsurfing and surfing. But the reality is I don't need to. I am a windsurfer, have been since 1986. But I am also a dad, a guy who goes to work and someone who has an interest in reducing the pollution I contribute. The exciting thing for me is not NEEDING a van anymore.
I don't really care what cars Antoine and Robby drive.......

Its nowhere near spring in Italy, so that might be why there's no news ??. I tried the duo, like them more for foiling than for freeriding due to the deckshape under the heels, quite flat. The shorter one is a nice board combined with the more front foot powered foils. (We use it with a manta with maximum tilt on the stabilizer)

Still doesnt compare to a hardboard tho. Way stiffer, making the pumping way more direct and therefore way earlier to plane.

I agree with you Grant, if windfoil boards were 8' long I'd see this making more sense. I basically assemble my foil each time I sail, so not having to inflate a board is one of the nice things about windfoiling for me, I've done my life's share of inflating with kiting and SUPing.

I usually put a 100L slapper, three sails mast and booms in a Golf. But I have to put the Naish 122 on the the roof because it's too wide to see over. So I bought a Delica and piled everything in it.

My formula boards and foilboard are shorter than my masts, sails, and booms. Those latter three determine what size of vehicle I can use, and still get a passenger into the seat. My ancient 2002 Chevy Astro is just right, but my daughter's Jeep requires zero passengers when loaded.

I will replace the Astro soon. I will be measuring candidate vehicles (small vans) for space BEHIND the seats. (It also means we can sleep back there if necessary.)
