I've been using the standard Redwing package 1400/350 on an Alien 125 with 5.0-7.0 sails and getting to the point where I can gybe on the foil. I had been planning on getting the 1000/250 at this point but I now see the range has been increased to include 1200/800 wings and 300/250 stabs. Should I just go ahead with ahead with the 1000/250 or should I consider any of the other sizes?
I have tried the 1000 with a 250 stab but didn't like the 1000. It is faster but for me didn't give any other advantages. I ran with the 1400 for a couple of years with the 250 stab and that is a great combo. I got the 1200 end of last year and had a few sessions on that. That is all I use now. To me the 1200 is an improved 1400 in a number of ways, faster and manoeuvrable. It does stall a bit earlier than the 1400 but you soon get used to it. By the way I'm 83Kg and I use a Predator. Largest sail I ever use is a 5.8 and go down to a 4 with that setup. Hope this helps.

I bought the 250 stab as a separate item. I'm based in Guernsey so your UK supplier should be able to supply just stabs. The smaller stab really loosens up the Redwing. Back to the 1000, my experience of this wing was in Vassaliki last year. I had some very strange crashes which I can't explain but basically it through me into an unexpected yawl at quite a pace but flat water, not just once a few times. My 1200 with a 250 stab is a great setup if carving free foil is what your after. If it's speed then I can't comment, maybe try the 800. I would avoid the 1000, in my opinion the span is too narrow.

Interestingly, they don't mention the 1000 at all. They say the modern shaped, higher aspect, 1200 has made the 1400 obsolete (which agrees with your comments) and they also recommend the 300 stab with both the 1200 and 850 due to it having a modern shape too.
I'm thinking I'll go for the 1200 and 300 and see how I get on
When I owned a redwing, I preferred the 1000 over the 1400. It needed more board speed to fly, but once up it had just as much glide as the 1400 but had the advantage of being looser and more fun riding waves. I'm now using Phantasm PTM 899 and 999 foils on my 110 Predator.
Thanks John. Everyone I have spoken to with a 1000 has said they preferred it to the 1400. I'm guessing the Phantasm PTM foils are a progression from the 1000 and something to be considered in future rather than now?

Yes, get comfortable on the 1000 first then figure out what you want to do on foil (mow the lawn, chase waves, go fast, course racing etc) before you make any decisions on upgrading gear.
I'm guessing that John has never tried the 1200 as they are the new wings. The 1200 is in my opinion much better than the 1000 and the 1400. Having said that there are great deals to be had on the old 1000 so get one and try for your self.

Gurra aka the legnedary KV! How good is flagged swell rides on the windfoil eg 3:40 min in the video.
I have dabbled in the other foil sports blow up and parachute and maybe I am ****e but I get way way better less effort swell rides on flagged windfoil. I think the initial feeling is that the "flagged" sail is providing a lot more power than you would think, but I reckon its more the removal of mast foot pressure from sail gives you bonus lift from the foil that you would only get on blowup/parachute if you stepped back on the board

If anyone in the UK is selling a 1000 front wing or the 250 stab im looking to buy them second hand:) Ive found the bigger stab combined with the longer fuselage to make it hard to pitch up and down quick enough in lumpy water, and am looking for a slightly faster front wing

That's my guess. Although when it's super light it might be closer to zero. I have had situations where the sail tries to push against the wind because the speed on the wave is faster than the actual wind speed if that makes any sense.
