I am just wondering if anybody is using Axis foils for windfoil??

Still ride my Axis when I want to change it up a bit started on HPS 930 &830 with 380 tail and 90cm aluminum mast.Now my go to front wing 780 spitfire with a progressive tail loose and fast still use the aluminum mast and windsurf fuselage V2. The good thing about axis is lots of people ride so good amount of used available.

Some lake mac guys regularly do wild Mr Squiggle windfoil lines using Axis. Kev is one, he used 1099 and 799 today.

I just got Axis for winging. As Kdog says lots of it out there. I'm having success feeling more balanced on the wing after weeks than i got on windfoil after a year. I'd like to try it windfoilng too.

HPS 880/700 with skinny 362/50 tail and short fuse. 82cm aluminium mast. Keen to try the surge front wing.

I use axis foil for windfoil. Art 1099,899 and spitfire 900. Aluminium mast 82 cm, progressive 375 and windsurf fuse v2. I like it. Used them with jp 135l,wizard 114 and slingshot 115l freestyle. Works good. Feels like 2nd hand market is good also so im always looking for a bargain.

I did. Was using the BSC 1060 and 1120, and an HPS 1050. Tried an ART 999v2 and hated it. Scariest time I ever had trying to get it up on foil. Kinda gave up on hopes that Axis would update an existing foil, or come out with something new for windsurf foiling. Sold pretty much all of my Axis gear a month ago. Hoping to find another brand to try. I bought a Cedrus Evolution Forged mast so I can have one mast and try different brands.

Thanks.......The reason I ask is that I have had some fuselages made to fit axis front wings and different masts. I have a custom US plate mast that has a similar but not the same connection as axis and a tuttle mast with a different connection again...these masts were left over from a still born project I was working on a while ago. Didn,t want these masts to be obsolete so made sense to get fuses made to suit them with Axis heads as there is a massive range of wings available.. I also have the titanium carbom fuse I had made which does fit an Axis mast. I have a couple of Jackos One Ocean front wings and a couple of my own prototypes, but specifically looking for a light wind front wing for my biggest board. I was thinking maybe a fireball.........I didn't see any mention of anybody using a Fireball for windfoil.....

Haven't used long fuselages in years now, currently on gong regular fuselages V2 and V3, shortest set up there 65 cm between leading edge front wing and trailing of stabilizer, i think around 70 is my preference. I don't use foot straps, my board 175cm length, and I don't have any stability issues, neither 2 other ppl that use similar set up

I can't imagine using the short fuses windfoiling....I would have thought the pitch stability would be aweful, especially if you are using soft wave sails where the draft is moving around. I guess it depends on how fast you want to go, just ploding upwind and riding swells or putting the hammer down.....

No harness or foot straps, style closer to wave board riding but generally faster and much improved upwind/down wing angles, definitely not slalom chasing top speed; overall its very close to winging

I'm considering Axis because of their large selection of big wings and a front-wing connection that looks sturdy enough for me to reliably ride large-span foils. I am curious about the cambered high aspect wings that claim low stall speeds with lots of glide. Seems I can find most of it used and adaptors to my Cedrus mast are available.

I think discussions about fuse length are always interesting. I ride strapless and currently use a 90 cm fuse. Stability is rarely an issue, and I'm sure I could go shorter on the fuse and/or downsize my stab. Usually, the bigger front wings I favor help simmer pitch down.

I've found that keeping the sail as small as I can and as close to the front wing as I can really helps balance pitch. Smaller sails make less downforce and when kept close to the front wing that downforce has less leverage over the foil. The less the sail affects pitch balance the easier it gets to control pitch.

I do like the idea of having a longer fuse because it lets you run a smaller stabilizer for the same amount of stability-so, less drag.

The other reason I've stuck with the longer fuse is something David Ezzy told me: as he incrementally moved the tail wing forward and shortened the fuse, turning got better, but windward ability got worse. I'm always looking to optimize windward performance so I can spend more time sailing off the wind.

Anyone ever try sailing without the stab? I have been wanting to try that. It reminds me of training in Lasers, sailing without the rudder to learn how to steer without it using the rudder brake.

Currently riding Axis. Best things about Axis is the easy availability of spare parts and wings. I have used HPS930, 830, 720, Art 899, Art 799, Art 699 front wings.

The Art 799 is now my favourite out of the lot. The 899 is better when it's marginal but creates too much lift once your are fully powered up. The Art 699 works when it's windy enough to be on a fin.

The HPS 930 has way too much lift for windsurfing in my opinion. The 830 is probably similar to the 899 but not as turn, the 720 has a bit less lift than the Art 799 but isn't quite as fast or again does turn as well.

I have used the windsurf V2 fuselage and the standard. My experience is that you need a bigger rear wing to make the standard fuselage work. It's otherwise to twitchy (if that makes sense). Also to consider is that the fuselage length is probably somewhat dependent on the board length and foil box position.

i have used the HPS700 on the windsurf fuse. Tried the 899 and 1051arts but found the HPS 700 way more fun and playful..

I'm thinking similarly about using Axis for light air. My thought is to explore the combo of pump foiling and windsurfing. It could be epic for float and ride, and I can see it helping to foil through 360's and tacks. I'm looking at the V2 PNG 1200. Compared to my SAB 999, it has similar area but more span and a higher aspect ratio without going too extreme. I question whether the super-high-aspect ARTs and Fireballs really have the low end and playfulness I'm looking for-you would know better than I would.

I'm curious about your thoughts and goals for your biggest board and light-air setup. How big and wide is that board, what size sails are you using, and which size Fireball were you considering?

When you said your wing-machining method may not be as stiff, is that because the fibers get milled away rather than running full-length as they do in molded construction?

Have you had any luck with higher aspect foils? I tried an ART 999v2 last year and I was spooked by how hard it was to get on foil. I never actually rode it on foil. It was so pitchy and wobbly that I immediately put it back on the water and slogged back to shore and put my HPS1050 on.

I have used the One Ocean 1049 which has an AR of 10.5 and its fine, good fun and a mate of mine uses the Sabfoil Leviathan which has a AR of 12.5 and really likes it in the light airs. I like the One Ocean 1049 but need something with a bit more bottom end and hopefully a bit faster....

KDog, you mentioned in your PM to me that you went from the v1 windsurf fuse at 899 long to a V2 899 windsurf and the difference being the V2 moves the mast approximately 50mm closer to the front wing. What was that transition like? Did you need to move your straps and foil placement? Presumably you like the V2, what do you like about it. The Axis fuse names are Psyco and I don't really see anything called V2 windsurf fuse. If I follow the nomenclature, it should be called Black Advanced Windsurf? I am excited to have all options and damn the schedule or finances, it's time for me to experiment more with the foils.

If you ordered a new black windsurf 899 you would receive the V2 that's the only one available I went to the v2 because the board I was riding the rear base plate screws had to be all the way back to almost the drop in slots so I had to modify the aluminum base plate.As for the ride pitch roll yaw not much difference. I suspect the original was designed with the Tuttle box in mind as lots of boards have the T box mounted very far to the rear.

Some shops still have V1. I have tried to get a V2 through a shop but was told a V3 is in the works. Unfortunately on the Axis website it only says "Black Windsurf Fuselage". There seems to be no V1 / V2 differentiation.

Curious, am I the only one here preferring fuselage length 70cm+-3? I understand for course or slalom one need extra stability and upwind angle, but freeride/wave??

My fuse is 92cm but has the front wing closer to the mast than a slalom fuselage would. I find its a really good balance between pitch stability and loosness.... I have tried a few different masts and one thing that is clearly evident is masts with a shortened chord length really loosen up the foil. I recently tried the One Ocean foils 90 cm mast which has a chord length of 105mm compared to my custom mast which is 118mm chord. It's noticebly looser, almost too much for me.
So I guess what I am saying is that there other ways of loosening up your foil without sacrificing pitch stability which you will with a really short fuse.....IMO

Anyway...back to the original question...I guess nobody has any experience with a Fireball on a Windfoil? The new surge in a larger size could be a good option as a lightwind freeride wing.....

I happen to know Santa is bringing me a V2 PNG 1200 . It will be interesting to see how it windfoils, I am sure it will be educational. To make sure I get good use of it, I want to try pump foiling. I am starting to put together a foil scooter out of the broken carbon masts (sail) and a dinner tray board I have lying around. I think with the help of a handlebar I can learn to pump foil and if I can I know it will really improve my light sailing kinetics. If nothing else, it will help burn off some the holiday calories!
I am eyeing all the used spitfires to fill out one or two more sizes smaller than the PNG 1200 for freeride windfoil. The Surge looks like a great option for me as well. I want to really put some time on the 1200 before my next move, I still have and plan to keep my SAB set up so I have my daily driver ready to go.
Go for the fireball mr love, we need to divide and conquer to cover all the ground we want too! Maybe you can find one used?

Quick update, it works! Really well! Stand by for more after I sail it like I stole it. Basically, sailing a pump foil is exactly what I have been reaching for in my first gear/light wind set up.

Axis is commonly used where I sail in NZ for wind foiling and wing-foiling. It's the 1 brand offering lots of choice for different styles of riding. I started 3 years back with a used BSC red fuse and quickly transitioned to 900 black fuse, ART 1099 and P475 stab sailed with a Turbo 7.0. This was a game changer, fast, stable and easy to gybe. I also sail an ART 899 / P425 with 5.0m or 5.4m sails and STB freeride foil 125L. The AXIS range is well made and easily customised with a good range of used product found on Marketplace.
