I'm going to Bali for 2 weeks in June. Does anyone have any tips for Nusa Lembongan? My flight gets into Bali at 2pm - will I still be able to get a ride over to Nusa Lembongan that day? Also I've heard tides can be an issue.
Thanks
Mate went over some years ago by fishing boat which took forever. The fast boat is the way to go, they do day trips and it maybe to late the day you arrive 2 pm, pay your way in,get sniffed by dogs, grab a ride. It will be 4 ish by the time you hit the harbour, too late me thinks. ![]()
Your best bet is to book in to a hotel in Kuta for the night, tell them you want to go to Lembongan and they should be able to sort it out for you. Im pretty sure thats what we did. The trip is only about 45-60 min. Worth it when you get there! We stayed at a place called Playgrounds, it was a bit exy for Bali but still worth it!
Thanks for the info guys, is going to be sweet. Just need to get a new board now to complete the quiver for the trip.
First thing
GET CASH BEFORE YOU GO OVER it will help out heaps.
I went over in Jan. for a week and stayed at Playgrounds resort.
It was a cool place to be but the Island is basic. Found things to be more costly then the main land.
For a good feed head out to Nyomans Warung up near the light house. Try the evening time as the flys are friendly during the day cause of the sea weed, but she cooks a cracking feed for good price.
The surf is turned on by the tide as you mentioned. It can be a mill pond on low tide and over head on the high.
Most of the locals are great blokes and will share wave after wave after wave with you. The only guys I had any stick with were the ones that didn't speak any Engrish at all, but if that is the biggest problem it is a breeze.
Nicky and Cpt Neemo can take you out in there little boat for a dive, fish or to the surf spot you want to go. Nicky will surf with you but Nemo says he is to old to surf now.
The coral is sharp and can cause some cuts, rub lime on them if you have a slash.
GET MONEY BEFORE YOU GO OVER 8% on every credit card transaction and a low conversion rate on the Island.
If you get a scooter don't crash. About 70,000 Rp a day is a good rate. One scratch can cost you about $60 Aus. and if you want to enjoy the rest of your stay you got to pay.
If you go by the Scoot the trip will take 25 - 30 Mins depending on conditions. Don't be a scrooge pay the porter in Sanur to carry your bags . It will cost you 25,000 Rp, about $3 Aus, I had heaps of crap so I gave him more. On the Island we were met by staff from the resort so they took our gear up for free.
The only problem I found when we went was the heat at night ( yep I am a Pussy ). We had no aircon and in the middle of summer the nights don't cool down as much as in winter.
Another good feed is the Pizza Bungalow on the water front infront of Lacerations.
If you are going with kids Mushroom Bay is the better place to go as they have water equiptment onshore for every one to use, but only one little surf break for a bit of fun.
Hope this has helped you a bit.
Who has those hot pics. of Lacerations at about head 1/2 to 2X head?
I had a quick flick through pics. the other week and had a woody over them and can't find them again!

Hey Sunseeker ,
you will be a bit late to get a boat in the arvo,You would be best of as mentioined a night in kuta etc ,get your rupiah and head out the next day.If you go buy fhe scoot which is 25-30 min and about 27 us dollars including a ride to the Sanur to the boat.Once you get to the island i recommend a place called Tamarind Bay bungalows which is in the bay near Playgrounds resort but alot cheaper awesome big rooms great food and the host who runs it Blacky is a surfer and a great guy personal friend of mine, they have a great pool and its just superb there. He can hook you up with bike, surf etc Enjoy

Hey guys, Ive been surfing for 3 months now and loving it, started to surf (if you could call it that) almost everyday now and already planning a trip toIindo.. probably a bit premature but the waves there look amazing compared to here..
Ive read through a few forums and you guys have incredible information and much respect for you sharing with others.. Im looking to head to Indo in July, is this just a ridiculous time time to go and im not looking to surf any reef breaks yet so can you guys help out with some beach breaks away from kuta that might be fun for a novice or intermediate by that stage i hope...
cheers guys for any help!
Scotty
Don't be scared of reef breaks. Reef breaks become surfed by more people because they are more predictable, can hold shape and seem to be more consistent.
I have found some sand banks to be more dangerous than reef due to there nature to dump.
There are a few breaks around in Bali that have soft lava rock instead of sharp razor reef.
Canggu, pronounced Chang-goo, is on the West side of Bali about an hour out from Kuta. This is a nice break but crowded, the Japanese love the place.
Medewi is another nice break in North Bali, 80 km from Kuta. It works on a swell from 4 - 8 foot, it is good for the starter to the old timer. It is a long left hand wave, more wall then tube.
Remember Mid year is the best time for West Bali. The rivers are not flowing crap out into the ocean and the wind is from the East.
The crowds are larger this time of year and are there to surf.
If it all gets to much just remember how good the food and shopping is. I dream of the food over there and could do a shop over just for a good cheap feed.
