G'day members , Having my grom time around the &;balnarring -portsea area in the 70s ,and returning on family visits in recent years i have noticed a huge change in the bay between the size of the bommies to the size of the &swell reaching the breaks like pines and balnarring , Then i spotted a huge amount of black spots on the surface inside the bay starting near flinders , then i asked a local fisherman what it was he told me that those drum floats held mussel beds just below the surface , i could not believe it , swell mufflers ,,is it not obvious to any one else ??
;It was most obvious to me when i arrived at balnarring point after seeing rather large bommies in the middle of the bay, just before high tide only to discover it was 6inches to 1foot ,before the swell mufflers were there it would have always been at least 3ft on those swell conditions ,there are times when i have ridden that point at 5 ft alone mid week the same goes for nearly every break from sommers to flinders .; In my opinion these money beds ,,,,oh i mean mussel beds ,,need to go ASAP .
Totally agree, it is a disgrace there will be more of this into the future too, my friend lives overseas where they farm salmon in pens. All the pens are next to each other. There used to be a delightful novelty wedge/mini point their. Not anymore.......
sorry Duan but humans keep feeding on fish and crustaceans. they need to replenish stocks somehow .
i bet a lot don't think of your problem when ordering salmon and oysters kilpatrick at their local.
