Ok as everyone knows I'm a beginner =D
As such I stay away from the pros, lineups etc to get out of everyone's way/ I enjoy surfing by myself too. The thing is though, I'm now consistently catching greenwaves (only surfing down the line no tricks just yet! haha) and everyone seems to slowly move to whereever I'm surfing.

Not to be a badmouth but I honestly aint liking this; not to mention when there are other people my surfing goes crap! Like this morning I had a good sesh til 8 or so when the people start coming in. I dont think I caught anything for the next hour and spent it pearling, getting knocked by me board and embarrassing myself.

So this ever happen to you? People see you catching waves so they decide to come join you? Surely theres enough beach for everyone!!!!!

Funny thing is that will always happen. I will stand on the beach before going out and watch where the best waves and often there are already people surfing and if its a good wave its probly crowded anyway.

I understand the frustration but it will always happen

yep - people judge the wave by the surfers surfing it - so if you are catching nice looking waves, and it's not too crowded, then that is where people will head out.

Sadly it's something you need to get used to in the metro area.

Yep this happens all the time........I have been out at a remote beach break with peaks all up and down it and still a crowd of guys will come and sit at your peak?? Its the sheep theory.
Only thing worse is when its a surf school that rocks up to where you are surfing...argh

Hey newguy, listen to this.......
I was at wedge around 2 months ago surfing on my own with the missus, kids and dog on the beach. Wasn't great but it was a wave and we were all on our own. In the interest of painting a good picture we were north of the island with no one else in sight. I had had a look around before we stopped at this spot and there were other banks around, I picked this one for no other reason than kids were getting anxious to get out of the car. Set up the shade, picnic chairs, rug and then the bbq got put together.
Got a 40 min surf in before 2 cars and a moto X bike decided to park 10m away from us. Thought that was bad, they then put wetties on and 4 surfers paddled out to say hello .
Then thier dog decided it didn't like our dog!
As you could imagine it was a bit harder than just throwing the board in the car and driving off.
Morale of the story is YES IT WILL HAPPEN TO YOU, again and again and again!!
At least i got 40 mins though hey?

I definitely think this the sheep factor
Its probably why they got into surfing in the first place
Some people are plain useless at looking at an empty beach and deciding if there are rideable waves
Always much easy to work out if there is someone riding it
Tip for next time, Sit there and dont catch any waves while people are checking it Struggle to catch waves and make it really bad (thats unless the set of the day rolls in)
