Howdy all

I am looking at getting back into surfing again after about 10yrs out of the water but I'm not sure what direction to take.

I am 85kg and about 175cm, back when I used to surf from 13 - 20yrs I used to ride a 6'3" 18"1/4 x 2"1/4 and did a few comps, but I think those days are long gone.

I am thinking of a Mctavish 8ball but am also thinking maybe I should get a short board instead, I want to get back into the water for the stoke of riding waves again.

If I was to get a short board what size do you think, while I have plenty of years in the water I am classing myself as a beginer again due to the amount of time on land. Maybe a 6'5" with a bit more foam in the rails?

Any help would be great

I spent some time out of the water and went for a 8 foot mini mal and found myself sitting in the middle of no man's land In between short and longboard take off zones and traded it for a 9.1 mal,I did have a eightball and its a great fun type board but once again it sits in the middle.

If your young and fit enough go for a shortie because the longboard will come once age and those old injuries come back.

Yeah the more I think about it the more I wany a short board,

right so next question, can anyone tell me a shaper on the Gold Coast (I'm sure there is a heap) that will take the time to listen to what I want a give me what I need and not just grab something off the rack?

After some feedback from shapers you have delt with.

Speak with Stu at Stuarts, great guy and he is more than happy to talk about what you want/need. Don't hold back he will take it all on board. He makes SUV models check them out.

Well I flicked an Email to Darren from DHD and explained my situation, I was thinking with the Quicky pro on it would take a while to get back to me, I was wrong, he got back to me straight away.

Not only did he get back to me but he went through what he thought I should get and why and also told me he has some demo models to come down and try to make sure I'm happy before spending the hard earned. Talk about good service with how busy he is at the moment.

His recomendation for a short board is 6'4" x 20" x 2" 3/8, will head off and give it a try and go from there.
