Looking for a little advice from those in the know.
Planning an Indo trip next year to one of the 2, never been to either. Ive read so much about them both now that I'm completely confused and none the wiser which one to choose.
Ments was first choice, looks to have all the options (lefts, rights) and a good chance of scoring 4-6ft surf (my ideal size) but crowd issues.
Then I read about Telos, seems a little smaller (av 3-4ft), but fewer crowds which is a big deal and super consistent.
Im a regular footer, decent intermediate level looking to just surf the whole time I'm there, thought I'd throw it out there to fellow Seabreezers for some guidance and comments - any help appreciated!

Same same really. Boat trip ments probably covers more bucket list waves.

Telos is more remote way way way less crew the days of scoring kandui bank vaults and rifles in the ments without 30 humans is rare,,, I surfed no kandui with 30 people out double overhead and serious jostling in the lineup,,, ments is in general a little cheaper as such it strongly appeals to Brazilians and Portuguese people.........

ments pitstop hill paul Clark will and will put you onto some waves by yourselves and you will score...... I mean macaronis and green bushes is nice but maccas has at least twenty people on it all day every day

pitstop hills surf boats do 15-20 knots so you have a circle of twenty five thirty km to hunt waves in an hour,, couple unnamed waves which are as good as your green bushes and kandui.......


now telos will cost you another $1500-$2000 aud for telo lodge or near but here is the kicker there are multiple waves on that island ( two world class the house right and a left on the other side.....
there is a camp at the left and one at the right each camp holds ten or twelve maximum,,, within an hour in a boat there is at least 12-15 a class waves,,, and by a class I mean kick your ass and ten twelve second barrels possible....

Ive surfed solid ments a few times
and telos pound for pound compares if this is a once every 5-10 year trip I would treat myself to telos ,,, if you haven't done ments you can do a 10 day boatie for 3-4 grand with flights...
telos is more of an 7-8 k trip to do it in comfort......

mind you macaronis and kandui are up around 6-8 for ten twelve days unless you get early bird deal...

both places will kick kick your ass, no kandui is a glorified closeout,, find some footage that has not been slowed down and you will see how challenging it is bankvaults will destroy even the most experienced tube riders.....

telos is the same however there wavesare not as advertised....... I will leave that remark as the last for telos

new resort in telos called monkeys never stayed there but surfed there now house wave it's premier it's a class and there is many others near....

In summary I once did a trip to one palm,, we hoped we would get it "on"
well it was and it was twelve foot legit 3-4 overhead for the first three days ,,,, first day in a crew of ten everyone snapped a board,,, second day half the crew did not want to or surf..... the second night half our whole board quiver was gone and on we all went to sleep terrified on what day 3 would bring,,, deals on boards between us were made for peoples souls and on the third day it was "only 8-10" fantastic now I'm only going to get held down for 20-30 seconds instead of 40........ on the fourth day it dropped to four five foot and the next six days were the most amazing indo surf to this day I have had.....

just be very very understanding on what you actually want from a trip when you book it......



The above wave and session was a "fun" sized day at bankvaults, I'm on a 5,10 was a absolutely mental session......... I have far better pics from the telos but none I am happy to put on a website...........

Haven't been to the Telos but done a few trips to the Ments land based around the Playgrounds area and North Sipura (Telescopes area).

1st of all if you get swell and the conditions crowds wont be so much an issue if you are fully fit (if you aren't don't waste your money)1/2 or more of the crew out there wont be.

Good conditions means you will be able to surf bigger waves just remember at least 2 extra paddles on take off being an intermediate surfer wont matter as long as you commit.

Great info, thanks guys! Defo edging towards Telos, the fact it's a slightly a little more of the beaten track is appealing. I don't mind dropping a few more $ to have a better experience with crowds, some Telos camp restrict numbers to 6-10 which appeals to me.

I've only ever been out in surf around the 10ft+ range twice (profile pic was one) and didn't enjoy either, just sh1t scary tbh and I was just thinking about not breaking my board, or how the hell am I even gonna get in haha!! Im comfortable at a solid 6ft, if I can get days between that and 3-4ft then I'm super stoked! I guess you can never predict things tho..

My fitness is good, comfortable with a 3-4 hr session in the SW (5-6ft). Good to know half the crowd will be struggling after an hour or so. Agreed it's all in committing, things go wrong otherwise and an extra paddle always helps for sure! Nice pics btw, would be happy with either of those!!

I just finished 2 weeks in the Telos based at Telo island surf house. Run by a local family.
Most consistent wave left in the area Maximum 6 surfers, 2 non surfers.Waves were head high or little bigger everyday. Surfed Mistos, pinnacles, la-ba, bulutu, bumcracks, zippers and a couple others that are not known. The accomodation was basic but comfortable at $50 per day inc food. The boat you paid an extra around $100 per day. The amount of resort boats and charter boats was insane. The behaviour of some of the boats and surfers was extremely poor. I suppose the amount of money they paid they thought had rights to do what they want. I counted 4 charter boats and 3 resort boats out the front one day. One charter boat was anchored there for 5 days. Overall I highly recommend a visit to the area for surf, fishing and local people are great.

Good one Robb have that place on my list, some boats have their act together and others are fu(king hopeless

Rangas/GT's is out the front of where I'm staying, surf it?
I chose Telos as the crows seem a little thinner than the rest of accessible Indo - your comments tell me slightly otherwise but I live in hope.
The fact you had at least head high for 2 weeks is awesome!

Luke cole is the owner of TSV really nice Aussie. Met him in the water at Rangas. Rangas is a little sketchy on low tide but a really good wave. Luke has a nice boat and will get you into the waves either direction. Enjoy and look forward to your trip.
