i need an domistic airline in Indonesia from Jartarta to Padang that can accomidate my surf board. It's 8' x 30". can anyone refer one?! PLEASE :)
thank you very much, i actually did try them but i forgot to mention that it's a SUP surfboard and Lion won't take it because its too big.
I would recommend Garuda, more expensive but boards travel free.
Lion charge Rp200 000 per board $20
thats my 2 cents worth ;)
Just back from Telos - Perth, Denpasar, Jakarta, Padang and flew with Garuda. Two board bags. 1 x double 6'10" and one 10' overall that had 9' longboard and clothes. No problems either way, including missing our connection to Padang in Jakarta. They just put us on a flight 3hrs later at no charge, in fact they didn't even ask why we miss our connection!
Did you have any dramas with Garuda checking in two separate board bags for 1 person? So 2 pieces of sporting equipment? website says you are only allowed 1 piece up tp 23kgs, the weight of the 2 bags will be under 23kgs but don't want to be stuck at the airport and trying to send home a surfboard bag with a taxi driver or paying a ridiculous fee for a second bag
I was travelling with my wife and 3yo boy who had a full fare seat so in fact we could've taken three surfboards. I wouldn't recommend trying for more than one surfboard bag unless you can afford it or have someone drop you off at the airport and hang around until you've checked in.
Best to check with the airlines because it depends on the type of plane you'll be on and whether they classify it is luggage or freight/cargo. Different planes have different luggage and cargo maximum sizes. So you could be sweet going there, but on the way home end up with a smaller plane that can't hold your board as luggage or cargo. I learnt this the hard way after purchasing a SUP whilst away. Luckily i checked with the airline the day before I left, which allowed be to find a courier to get it home, Airline was going to charge me over $1k because it was too big for luggage and was now classified as cargo. They will accept larger items as cargo, but the price becomes hectic.
