G'Day everyone,

Im flying to bali in two days and chose Garuda as they incorporate surfboards. I was told to call them regarding taking surfboards a few days beforehand and so i did. I was told i could take 7kg or carry on, 30kg of onboard and 23kg of sporting equipment ORRRRRR 1 surfboard....... i tried to clarify it with her and she seemed adamant that it was only 1 board. I would have thought that 3 boards at 5'6, 6'4 and 6'8 with no fins and less than 30cm in thickness in the bags would be less than 23kg and comes under the 230cm maximum length of the smallest plane.

So my question is.... if my boardbag has 3 boards under the maximum length and weight. Will they let me take all of my boards?

G-Day Mitch, Mate I have flown Garuda a lot on surf trips over the last few years and have had no trouble at all with boards. We recently returned from the Telos and one of our guys had an 8'10" SUP bag with two sups and a single fin and other gear and he was fine. Cheers, Matt

buuuut just be careful of the 30kg plus boards especially if you have connecting.
I take a backpack on plane with two sets clothes and camera and everything else goes in boardbag

You will be fine Garuda are awesome...This was my quiver last Jan, boards were packed double board bag taped to the longboard bag. Took the longboard over to be repaired at Naruki, it was in 2 pieces before I left Oz. They did a mighty fine job, tested in up to head 1/2 Nusa Dua

Watch out for Jetstar they are terrible with boards. They have compartment loaded baggage if the board doesn't fit in the compartment your screwed

Yeah Jetstar is super sketchy. They are never consistent with the rules for them. It's funny that I can have a jacket with 10kgs of stuff in it, but as long as my bag is under 7kg, I'm good.

One time I was over by two kg's, and I started to stuff the extra into my pockets and it was all fine.

How that works, blows my mind...

Yeah another thumbs down for jetstar. I had 2 clear foot prints put into my boards underside on flight home. Clearly it had been stood on pretty heavily or even jumped on.

Showed em pics when I got it home. They couldn't give a toss.

Jetstar staff are too busy with the crowd control inside the plane.
Arguments over merging into one's seat I suspect

Another thumbs up for Garuda from me as well. We go to Lombok via Bali and 2 of us took 8 ft SUP's as well as shortboards. No hassle at all and all smiles at the checkin desk, transfer to 737 at Denpasar was easy as well

Been flying for years with Garuda the only problems are the Perth baggage handlers very rough. Don't do Air Asia ,mates brand new Gatto

Looks like a super light glass job, but no excuse from the airlines!
