Hi all, having been a long time lurker, I've noticed a few of you are from WA. Having only taken up surfing recently and starting university, I really want to move out if possible; within walking distance of Perth's favourite beachie so I don't need to drive 30min or so to go for a paddle.

Chances are I'll be able to make 300ish a week and maybe a bit more here and there. Is that enough for me to get by? I am still in the planning stage as my degree is getting pretty intensive so chances of me working more will keep decreasing as the years add up; the draw back of such medical degree. I know most definately once I'm done, I'll be aiming for a place as close to the waves as possible but for the time being, I guess I'll have to settle for renting and moving out.

So anyone got any tips? Anyone got any good ideas of how much I'll need, how much I should be working etc in order to be able to do this?

Have you thought about housesitting? Could be a great option for you, sometimes you can get long ones when the owners go overseas. Just have to look after pets and house and you get the place rent free! We have had some girls look after our place and our dog while we have been away, worked out well :-)

You could also look around for a dirty hippy share house. One that violates several fire codes, but with dirt cheap rent.

CHeers guys, yeah it seems like a tough one at the moment. Even though parents don't even want me moving out! So far I guess I'll just keep working and saving up the dough and see how things go year end.

I don't know mate, think Sub's place might be packed to the limit with sharks hiding from public purgatory at the moment

Here's a real tip - pick your timetable carefully to give you two hour free slots in the middle of the day. Drive to uni (UWA I presume?) and between lectures/tutes/labs go surfing. Continue to live with your parents in the barren hinterlands and save your cash.

If you really like surfing, take up a rural GP position in Esperance, Albany, MR, Dunsborough, Dongara, Gero, Kalbarri, Carnarvon or any other relaxed country town (actually, Gero and Carnarvon could be a bit rough and hard work for a GP). They'll be begging for doctors. There will only be one or two country girls to choose from but you'll be a doctor and no doubt highly prized as they'll see you as their ticket out of there.

Or do postgrad/academia, and have hours of nothingness to go surfing each day.

Or live in the back of suba's car and surf between coffees at Yelo.

Wow Legion, or should that be Uncle Legion! I liked the part where you encouraged him to go rural because desperate women will latch onto him just so they can leave Just what you look for in a chick, utter desperation and a deep desire to use you as vehicle to fulfill their goals!!! Gold and I hope young Waveless heeds this sage advice.

Im not sure Bakesy. I had a mate who was a Doctor but was absolutely dead ugly.. His only chance was to lead with "Well I am a doctor". His RSVP account he said "Im no stunner but i am a qualified Doctor so have great hands" 100% true story

God love him and R.I.P Deano
