I recently picked up an old retro board for the man cave that was covered in wax. Once I removed the wax it revealed the word Farrelly on the deck. It also had an address underneath 264 Mona Vale Road, Brookvale. My research has revealed that this is likely to be a circa 1970 Midget Farrelly Side Slipper (one of Midget's first ever short boards). Can anyone please validate this? Cheers. Gav

Looks good. I have a 1968 Peter Clarke that I am currently restoring... I would be very interested to know how you have done the 'invisible' wall mounts - thanks.

Nice one GPA I was thinking of restoring mine as well but somehow it just looks good in its original condition. As for the wall mount I siliconed a batten on to the rear of the board and then on to the wall. Both battens were chamfered so that they lock into each other. Very happy with the result as the board appears to float on the wall. Cheers. Gav

Crackin old board mate. Prober ally worth a few bucks. I like the way you have mounted it. Will the silicon permanently mark the board?

Forgot to say there is a guy called the board collector who send out random stories on old boards. He knows a heap about boards. Might be worth reaching out to

Thanks JG. Not sure about the silicone but it will only ever be a show piece. I've had a pretty good offer on it already and as soon as that happened I knew it was a keeper.

Hi Supg - great board!!
I hung out around Manly in the late 60s and early 70s. Midget had a shop there were stacks of his boards out in the water. Looks like an early 70s side slipper to me, maybe 71-72ish due to the less pronounced "s" in the deck, but might be wrong (hey- it was the seventies). Would have had a scary sharp, thin and pointy glassed in fin (hence the side slipper name). Cheers Bill

Thanks Bill for the feedback. I'd say not an 'S' model either. Pretty stoked though to own a unique piece of surfing history. Cheers. Gav

these were Midgets sideslipper designs, summer autumn 1970.your board looks like from mid 70s to late 70s.not sure about Monavale road?I had a custom in 1971 from 230 Harbord rd Brookie,in 76/7 he moved to West St where the factory remains today.Prior to 230 harbord he was at Gows Boat shed at Palm beach.
