Places there are really expensive
It best to fly into the UK buy a van cheap and drive down
That's if you have the time
Otherwise there's a website that advertises and rates backpackers around the world
Sorry cant remember the name

go to san sebastian. its about 1/3 of the price. Otherwise go to decathalon, buy a 30 euro tent and find a nice quite area to put it up at night.

Once you get into October prices come down big time. We used to spend 2 weeks there every year mid to late October and got winter rates - well under 1/2 price. I have not been there for 6 yrs but the town used to almost go into shutdown once the end of Sept passed. Which is great as thats when the wave start to roll in. I tried to use Google streetview to find the place we used to stay but couldn't see it.

Loads of good waves all around that area. I you decide to head into Spain make sure you stay on yr side of the road as some of those coastal roads are very very narrow with steep cliffs falling away on the ocean side. Lots of accidents around those parts of the Basque country.

Thanks

thats the plan, a bit limited on time but hiring a car in Bordeaux - backpackers look pretty good value, swells starting to roll in ))))))))) and crowds dissipating

if your using magicseaweed for the swell predictions take about 1/2-1/3 off the prediction and that is actually what it will be, when comparing to Australian waves.

are you taking your own boards or are you going to hire? It is very expensive to hire boards so its cheaper to just buy a second hand board then sell it again before you leave

I stayed in San Seb a couple of years ago which was quite cheap. Just rented an appartment for a few ekks with a couple of mates. Hired a car and travelled up and down the coast from Manduka to Hossegor. Lots of waves through the whole area. Roads in northern Spain are pretty narrow. Make sure you carry your passport for crossing the border.

I stayed at the camp ground "fontain la board" in anglet ten minutes north of baritz. I'm not sur if it's still open. There is a caravan park in baritz but it is not that close to the coast. I never made it to hosseger so I'm not sure

I would recommend the main camp ground directly in Anglet, it looks quite far from the beach on a map but when you are there you'll see what I mean.

The camping is cheap, the vibe is good and it is on a small rise so you can easily see the beaches and pick a peak before you head down. There are backpackers and campers from all over Europe that frequent the place so it's heaps of fun. The camp kitchen is nice too!

Anglet has all these groynes and quality QUALITY waves for miles. You surf up and down the beach dependant on the tides.

I spent a lot of time there, albeit a fair while ago.

Lucky bugger!
