I'm looking to get a new board for this winter.
I'm an intermediate surfer but am starting to get into a bit bigger surf, ie trips down south and up north. (I'm in Perth).
I normally ride a 6'0 retro style Walden fish (dont get a Walden, nice board shape but the glass falls apart on you) for perth waves.
My current short board I have had for years, it is a 6'3 Aloha with stacks of rocker, a wide swallow, and rails that cut away next to the side fins. I dont know the other dimensions as a crease repair has covered the markings. The board goes alright in fat stormy surf but I start to feel pretty unsteady on it when it gets over head.
I'm 6'1 and weigh 90kg.
After that long intro, I've been having a poke around on the web. I like the look of the ARP from LSD. www.lsdsurfboards.com/
Had any one had experience with LSD boards? I'm not looking for something super light weight, and high tec, with paper thin rails ect. just a good all rounder that will keep me steady in bigger surf, say 4f to 6f.
My fave board is an LSD 6,5 round pin cant say enough about it! I picked it up second hand for $400. Luke is shaping with the base guys now have a look on their website. They do light weight glass jobs with carbon fiber tail rail patches.

Looks nice, how does the light weight glass job hold up? Many pressure cracks, easily ding ect?
I don't want a board that needs replacing after one season, I'm after durability over a light weight board. (within reason of course)
Cheers!
I think its 6oz on top and 4oz on the bottom, its 3 years old and as you can see is in great condition. I use it when it gets over head high and is a great mid range board. Its got a little bit of weight to it and is great when the off shore is strong as the weight helps it to punch through the wind. In saying that its not overly heavy! ![]()
Hope that helps ![]()
Adam-Luke Short is a VERY good shaper and well known over here on the E Coast-he was Insight's main shaper for years and struck out on his own about 4-5 years ago.
He shapes a great board and has had heaps of pros on his boards over the years-as for durability, if you're getting a custom just order a board with a beefed up glass job-downside is always weight, but may not be an issue to you or importance of durability may outweigh weight factor.
Luke can shape whatever you want-just let him know what you want/need.
I've got no association with LSD.
Thanks guys, nice to get positive feedback.
My new 'uni start up scholarship' has just come through from centrelink, so I may have to spend your tax dollars on a nice new board!
Thanks!
Second what loco' says - LSD has had a very good name for years in northern nsw and the goldy and having spoken to him on one occasion about a custom board he really is keen to make boards that fit and not just put you on something that should be ok for you, as so many shapers are happy to do.
A few years ago I picked up one of his Cult LSD twinnys at a sale and even though it was an asian popout it was an absolutely amazing shape and gave me some of the best times I have ever had on a surfboard. I can only imagine how insane a custom version of the same board would have been.
