Hi all,

After suggestions for fins from my Hypto, am 70kg and only been surfing for 3 years around once a week so still on training wheels. Only surf 1-3 foot and prefer the 2 footers. Borrowed my mates 5'8 hypto for a couple of weeks and can't believe what a difference its made to my surfing!!

He runs Blackstix V2 FEA fins which were really fast and drivey out of turns which I really liked and got going really quickly. My Hypto came with free plastic HS fins but they suck, I had a pair of plastic Vector II (FJC1) which were a lot bit better. Profiles were identical so I am guessing its the VII section I like.

But which bloody model?

http://www.thesurfboardwarehouse.com/p-645-future-fins-black-stix-20-br-all-models.aspx

They all sound the part, fast, drive, etc Another mate runs Blackstick F4 in his little fish and he likes those but hasn't tried any others. The guy at the shop recommended WCTs in honeycomb and said the Blacksticx were a bit dated and the WCTs were better...but they had a flat section.

Any suggestions?

Derek

Stoked your stoked on getting stoked.

I have a set of YU red hex core.
They are buy far the best all round fins i have.
WCT's are good but restrictive in bigger surf.

enjoy, and try and try some if you can.

Thanks joy rider, will add them to my will try last. I know from windsurfing that fins can really make our break a board, finding the same with surfing. Shame they cost so much or I would get several sets to try

+1 for shapers fins. Quality is excellent, and the boys from shapers are super cool to deal with.

What model Shapers would be comparable to the black sticx? Any with a profile?

once i tried "am" fins, i couldn't be bothered with the others. just don't have much time & money for experiments really.
all my fins fcs & futures are ams.
i had a fw dominator (bit similar shape to hypto krypto) and i used futures fiberglass am2's ( i am 80 kg).
for the black sticks i would go for fam1 model if i was ur weight.
for shapers fins i would go for a stealth am1.
if you look on characteristics on shapers fins web, most drivey fins are ams. just can't go wrong with 'em.
