Used to surf a 6'10 x 22 3/4 x 3. I was thinking of getting the fishcuit or the pocket knife which would you guys prefer? Thanks and cheers!!!
Well, how tall are you? Do you weight much? How's your paddling? How good are you?

I'm 5'9 and 70kg.. I could say my paddling is somewhat average and i could pratically catch a wave 7/10 with my previous board.
Your current board has a ton of foam. Until you're catching waves 10/10 with it, I wouldn't be downsizing.
When you do, think less about model and more about what you want out of the board. It's not going to be high performance, so I wouldn't be dropping $900 on a CI. Go and talk to your local shaper. You want similar attributes to your current board - wide through the nose, middle and tail, flatter rocker, nice and thick-but a little thinner and shorter than the 6'10 to allow you to progress.
On second thoughts,ignore everything i said- buy a thin, short, narrow rockered up glass slipper...more waves for the rest of us haha
Yeah that was what i was thinking too. I was just searching through the web and on gumtree for a 2nd board and saw that those boards were the once closest to the dimension of my old board, except the height. Thank you for the help.
On second thought, maybe I'll go with your second advice! More for you guys!!

get something similar to a dumpster diver or blak box, 6'2 to 6'3 by about 20.5 and thicker than 2.5" preferably 2.75".
At your weight you wont even be in the water when you paddle!

Well since i sold my old board when i transferred here, I'm tryin out to check my options before buying and something mobile since, i'll be riding the bus..
The DHD pocet knife look good. I couldnt find rail or rocker info but it looks pretty sweet.
Going too short can make a board sensitive to fore/aft trim especially if your used to longer boards. I wouldnt suggest going shorted than 6'.

Yeah, thats what I was also thinking about. I'm still trying to look for a longer board with the same dimensions, say about 6'2 maybe.. Thanks or the info and cheers!

Are you on the east coast?
This guy makes great high volume 'hybrid' type boards.

Sorry, we were talking about you, weren't we. My bad.
It might be OK, but I'd go the pocket knife. it might be a better allrounder.
But i've not ridden either, and i'm not a fish fan.
The fishcuit will have plenty of volume. Possibly more than the DHD, but its about the rocker and the foil aswell.
My first board (a mini mal) still gets used relatively regularly by me given the Perth waves. Even my learner NSP board that has been hammered still makes an appearance on crappy days. What I mean is, there are still times when unless you're a ripper, you may as well be on a fat board. Learning to ride a high performance fish or one of those shorter and wider modern short boards correctly takes some doing. You might feel like a kook carrying the learner board around, but at least it will get waves. You'll be surprised how many good surfers will occasionally be seen on foam boards or the like just to get waves. I once saw a guy ripping a metro groyne on a foam nippers board (with the big, moulded foam single fin). Don't get a board to look like a pro or to look like anyone else.

Actually, I still wanna get something similar to my old board, the reason is i dont live near the the beach, and the bus is the only transpo available for me, and being in sydney buses gets full quite alot.
So i decided to go with a shorterboard, even though I'll have a hard time. Just as long as I can surf..

I just read through the design write-up on the V-Skate and I want one!
The potato looks good and with 40.1L of volumw you will do floating like ur old board! It doesnt seem to come with fins though.
You realise at $550 your getting close to the price of a nice custom board form a local shaper. $650 will get ya a nice stick with placky fins in most places these days. Just sayin.
