Looking for suggested places in Indo for a family of beginner surfers in late June. Wife and I in late 40's, teenage kids. Hoping for nice spot, consistent waves on the small size, and will need to hire boards. Options other than surfing would also be good. Thanks!

Nusa Lembongan might fit your needs. You could stay on the hill overlooking Playgrounds surf break. It isn't too heavy when small (most of the time) but like most places in Indo, you are surfing over a reef so need to take care. Also plenty of snorkeling, hire a SUP, tour around the island on bikes. Not sure on the board hire situation there though. You can buy cheap new boards in Bali.

Kuta Lombok would also be worth a look. You could surf Grupuk which is relatively gentle but the danger is the huge number of inexperienced surfers in the water.

Beach breaks in Bali?

You'll need to be very careful wherever you go in Indo in June, as your chances of powerful waves are strong.

Both Stanos and the Doc are on the money, but both are very different experiences.

Lembongan has the added advantage of some awesome snorkelling spots and even better scuba diving if your into it.
Batu Karas is definately more learner friendly

West Java is a good call.

If you want to go to Bali you could stay near Old Mans. There's a variety of learner waves, lessons and board hire. You've got those inside spots on high tide and easy waves out the back on a small swell. Although in June there might be days when it is too big.

Lembongan picks up less swell and there are no cars which is a nice change.

Family of beginner surfers in peak swell season, I'd suggest somewhere around the South end of Kuta Beach Bali. Like between the Hard Rock & the Bali Garden hotels. Plenty of options other than surfing around there too.
