Often like that when you have a few mals.
But they're generally a bit laid back ,, so no real stress..
Let 'em burn each other,,, take off a bit deeper, later, see if you can catch them.. !
I was surrounded by them today,,, and still managed to have a ball..
So much fun today , after two months out of the water,,I couldn't believe it..

So many drop ins today was quite impressive

It is a good way to clear out the line up so you don't have to share, the only problem is dodging them all on the second wave of the set

Seems many surfers need a good lesson in adequate these days

Exactly what I thought, even if he wasn't very good at duck diving he should have been able to get the board under enough to stay out of the guy on the waves way, he didn't even try.

No matter what you are on you should not go into a line up without knowing how to handle your board.

Some really naive and/or arrogant people out there that don't realise the danger and damage that can be done.

Add swell and large crowd and you have a recipe for stitches and bruises all round!

Without sounding arroant (not sure if that's the right word here), maybe as experienced surfers we have a resposiblilty of teaching others that enter the water. A friendly tip to help out. Like many surfers when I started I had no idea, I just paddled out and took a thousand waves on the head, I had no lessons, just watched others and tried to copy.

I would expect many people fore go the lessons grab a mates board and head out with no idea. You can see just by the way they paddle out they shouldn't be there.

A freindly tip or even an impromtu lesson would go along way, you never know who you might meet or befreind.

I would think this guy would have done this a few times that day, maybe if someone had said "Hey you gotta hold to your board or turtle roll it, you'll kill someone letting go of your board" or "Hey it's too big for you here try Leigton it's smaller and more forgiving" may this could have been avoided.

Then I guess it all depends personalities you might end up in a fist fight - maybe it is a no win situation

I'm going surfing, hope the lid came off ok.

Here we go again... I feel like we've been down this road before on here.

I will let someone know every time, no swearing, no abuse, keep it simple.

Yes I agree but sadly people need to learn the skills somewhere and often that is at crowded spots. I think that Karlo has made some great points. If you see poor behaviour try and educate - it will make it a lot safer for you and everyone else.

The real issue here is why is the other fella on a boogie ? Surely if he can stand he should get a real board under his feet

Surfed a few places over the long break - some very crowded, some not so

One thing I noticed was the varying intensity of the crowd, by that I mean the vibe and actions of the crowd.

Yesterday was a bit less crowded at a break than on Saturday but man was it a s**t crowd. Everyone going for every wave like it was the last one they were gonna get - stuff that!

Me and a mate sacrificed wave quality for sanity and surfed away from the crowd just so that one did come through it was either mine or my mates go and we called each other in. Sure did not get as many waves but had a good laugh with my mate and enjoyed the session.

Yeah as you said, it was a circus. I took of on one wave after it looked like the guy inside me wasn't going to make it, he did so i pulled of hard only to belt the guy outside me on the shins Luckily i saw him last second and pulled it back some.. BUt having three or four guys paddling for a wave is not my idea of surfing I couple of folk telling each other what they thought of each other.. I nearly paddled over to you Southwester but you two looked so cosy That and the paddle was a bit far

Ha ha don't be such a lazy bugger, its worth the paddle to get away from the bad vibe that has infected that place lately!

I reckon you just didn't cos you would not have as many people to talk to

It was a rather social festival atmosphere. I even asked them at one point if they all intended on exchanging easter eggs shortly

As was said above most waves would have had up to four or even five guys paddling for each one. If you wanted a wave thats what you did. Guys would then sit deeper and deeper and eventually they would get pushed too deep and often didn't make it. It was just like these guys thought they could just paddle out and keep sitting on the inside all day long. Bit like what you said you do They though they owned the place, and most weren't anything like local.

Eventually you wait your turn long enough and then you just have to take your wave and hence thats why Southwester said it was a circus..

Quite often the act of dropping in can make the difference between making it or not making it for the guy on the inside.

Funny, I rarely have a problem with people dropping in and I almost never drop in, like once every couple of years by accident. But I never take off on someone just in case and I never surf the two spots being discussed outside normal work hours.

if its the same place i went to on friday morning,counted 56 at on e stage with more crew going out-wtf! just North had about 8 guys getting some nice short rides.went elsewhere further north and got good waves
