Hey breezers

Heading to Byron bay next week. Low and behold there's a cracking swell. My questions are does Lennox head handle a southerly. I'm going with the kids and we all surf so should I take a long board or a short board. Just don't want to be caring heaps of boards around.

If you don't know.... don't go .... stay in Byron

Longboards are a pain to travel with, good for the pass but you'd probably wanna surf elsewhere...there wasn't much swell when I went, but I scored some fun waves South of Byron. Waves are easy to find coz the roads are close to the beach, not like the SW where it can turn onshore coz you've stuffed around looking too long. If the swells big though you might be able to pick a section between the gazzilions of people along the Pass stretch of coast. Dunno what the other places would be like, they're more open to the swell than the pass area, so maybe not the the go if the kids are groms.....next time I go, I'll stay in Ballina or maybe Lennox. Byron accommodation is very expensive & I know I won't opt to surf the pass.

Short Board, Broken Head

Lennox will handle a fair bit of southerly. It's a bloody big headland. The jump off is sketchy as though.

The Pass is a circus. Angourie isn't far away either.

Lennox is fine in southerly wind. Large south swells, bring your paddling arms. Boulders has had banks as has most of the open beaches from tallow to north wall We have had one of the most consistent years I can remember. Only been last month that has been hit and miss. The beachies have had hell waves, though it's been a mission to paddle out at times. I've creased 3 boards this year so far. Take your short board. I only do pass when the current thins the crowd out or on a kite. It's a good optic choice though or for the kids. I live near broken point. Plenty of options within that area if you look. Message to self Never travel with Long Boards. This may have been a post for the long section but oh well.

I was told by the travel agent that she had checked with qantas and our luggage including the boards would be checked straight though to Balina. No dramas with boards the length doesnt matter. Stoked I thought. Got to sydney and Jetstar said no way cant put the boards on and forced me to send them home qantas frieght. Thats the short story.

Anyway we scored some boards from Brett a local shaper. The waves where pumping for three days really nice long rights at the pass and watagoes. It dropped of during the week but was still really nice and no one around.

Spleandour was great and all up it was a great trip.

It sure is a great country we have here. It was really nice to show the kids a new part of it. They have never seen points like the ones around Byron Bay. When my daughter fist looked out to the pass she asked "How do we surf waves like these?' Didnt take her long to work it out.

Hi you guys & gals

I'm the new guy and I'm travelling to Oz in december to have a summer Xmas. Is it easier to just buy or rent a board once I'm there and where should I go? I have heard about this place Byron Bay before here in the states, I've heard it has some great waves and movie stars live there. Is that where Mick Dundee lives? They say its just like Malibu in Cali.

Anyway any tips would be appreciated.
