G'day,
Im heading to the basque region in a few weeks for 10 days & was wanting to know the best options for board hire.
First stop is San Sebastian. What are the board hiring options & prices like? Would it be cheaper to buy a dinged up board than hiring one for 10 days? I remember hiring a board in biarritz a few years ago & it was 70 euro for the day, way too expensive!
Also what is the water temp like mid september? Will I need a wetty?
Any info will be of great help.
Cheers,
Nix.

Hi Nix, I was there in May.

Was one of my favourite places, surf, food, the people - just awesome!

I suggest you brush up on a few Basque phrases, goes a long way!

I hired from Pukas surf shop on the strip opposite the beach as well as the surf school that runs out a dugout on the beach towards the west side of the beach. The exact rates escape me but from memory was not too over the top, I needed to hire a wetty cos it was icecream headache cold, imagine would be colder now.

If you are there for a while might be beneficial to buy a second hand board then flog it off before you go?

Good beachy that picks up a lot of swell, I scored waves everyday I was there

By the looks of this you should get away with boardies.

I'm in San Sebastián atm. Just arrived today no surf and rained all arvo. Small swell coming but gets good after I leave.
As far as board hire goes, I went into a shop called Pukas opposite beach. Didn't see hire prices cos I sh@t my pants when I saw they wanted a deposit of 300 euro for board and 150 for wettie. They did have cheap second hand boards downstairs ranging from 75 to 220 euro. I'll check out more in next couple of days.Hope that helps.
