I just saw this on the ninemsn website. Its footage of a guy diving, being brave and fending off a 2mtr bronzy.
The bit that has really annoyed me is at the start you can clearly see that there is either burly or fish in the water exciting it.http://news.ninemsn.com.au/national/2012/10/21/14/52/diver-fends-off-shark-with-camera
There was some similar footage of Dunsborough a few months ago of a whitey eyeing off a dingy, then you see the bait they are using to attract it.
Can these idiots not put 2 and 2 together and realise that there is a large chance that attracting sharks to boats in this way is simply creating a pavlov's dog situation, shark see's boat, shark remembers food, shark goes to investigate.
But I guess some people are more interested in getting their 2 minutes of fame by posting their video on youtube or something similar.
These guys need a smack over the head to knock some sense into them.
People get in trouble if they go out and feed dolphins, and there is rules about keeping set distances in a boat from whales, but sharks...well go right ahead and feed the buggers, that will stop them attacking.
Yeah i totally agree DRD. Its my big beef and it is simply wrong[}:)]
they bait it in than sell the story saying the sharks bothering the boat, the media runs with it and then we all get hysterical about the sharks attacking boats![]()
Last nights news headlines for 7 said and the shark that just refuses to leave our coastline. Then in the actual story they said nothing other than a tagged shark set of a beacon at Mulla
Nothing about it staying in the area, nothing about its the same shark that's been hanging around.
In fact i have provided a question on Tagged sharks and tagging numbers to the Labour and Greens party and the greens have said they will try and put it before parliament before the close of this years session. Lets hope because i really want my answer that no one wants to give me.
Yep, and these same meat headed fisherman that are attracting them to the boats are some of the same guys that claim the experts don't know what they're talking about.
Ofcourse, you're going to see more sharks if you attract them to your boat on purpose.
i have to admit i am not a fan of the shark tours running in some of the southern states i don't think we need the apex ocean predator to be associating a free feed with the prescence of humans ....i had a dive with a mate in French polynesia where it was supposed to be illegal to feed the local reef sharks ..the local dive shop guy was of course doing this to impress the tourists ..so when we pulled up at the buoy in a private boat ...bingo 10 -20 small reefies appeared from nowhere and started doing circuits around the boat, and us ,the whole time we were in the water.
bit disconcerting even when they are that small !(and i am a bit of a sheila's blouse )
Fending off sharks is the norm when spearfishing up there, noahs will cruise in everytime they hear the spear go off, whether you hit a fish or not. yep, they associate humans (and spearfishing) with a free feed, but attacks are rare. This one obviously thought that it would test the camera. I don't see any issue with the news site running it, it's interesting footage, but I don't think the diver was in any danger either. Shark would be a Dusky or Spinner, Bronzies are a southern shark species.
Free breathing speeros will go out of Rotto, shoot a smaller/**** fish, and gut in then and there in the water to attract better fish like Maccies![]()
I have thought long and hard and still cant 100% decide if it takes a huge lack of brain cells
or the biggest cahoners going around![]()
