hopefully, its the only good surf tomz night that we have had for a week, and next week is a right off also. So prob be in the water
will deff be there for our regular visit, just unsure of what time
I'll recap the section in the book
please do - would love to know more
in the old factory it only had a tin roof and some bats used to hang up there.
one morning when the crew rolled up one of the bats had died and fell onto a newly glassed red, black and white occasional pin.
because the glass was still a little wet it was to stuck to the board.
well the guys had a lot of trouble removing said dead bat from the board.
it left a imprint. rather then sand the whole side of the board of and re glass it, one of the old boys, their all old at the mct factory, just sanded the imprint back a bit then grabbed a black nico and colour the imprint in.
looked so good the decided to use bat logo's on some boards
true story![]()

Bobs mate,Ian Obee O'Brain from Collaray was in town on a Noosa surf trip with a bunch of mates. He found me surfing at Alex and fronted me to make him a new board, the only hitch being he was driving back home the next morning WHAOW,Make a board complete in fourteen hours?Hmmmm, why not!
Obee bought a dozen longies of XXXX and a few big Cuban cigars.A stylish man,our Obee, someone had some dope.A few chicks in tow,My record player got rocking with Aminals,Easybeats ,Van Morrison,Manfred Mann.I powered through the plank with running commentary, even recessed around the fin area where the supporting glass would sit.Plenty of laughs and general relief when that screaming of the power planer was finished,on went the two layers on the bottom, carefully cut to stagger the second one a half inch part the first.anyway you get the picture all the crew were falling asleep except Obee.
But all night Obee was talking Batman,so I quickly taped up a big bat mask and painted it in with black resin Sweet!
Bodies were stirring the chicks set off home before their parents knew they were gone all night.Guys were standing around scratching themselves, rubbing sleep from eyes. There on the glassing stand was Obee's beauiful new scooter, perfect and shiny,The hottest Involvement shape available.
Finally Obee set off for Sydney with his board, new strapped down gently on the roof.A fourteen hour surfboard .I had a pocket full of cash,so life could go on.I staggered across to the beach and swam the itchies, the resin fumes, the body stickiness, the beer and dope out of my body.
So there you go the history behind the Bat board, this board is on show in the showroom.
