I'm an infrequent visitor to the nose of my new NR, but when I do visit, I always overstay my welcome, in other words, I can only walk or shuffle forwards, I'm not so good at getting back quickly enough to recover.

So today, I decide I'm going to try something that I see others doing, a quick backward bunny hop that will get me almost a half a stride further back, and possibly in a more stable position to shuffle or X step to the back for a turn or a trim.

I must have tried for over an hour and a half for the right wave on what was a bad closeout arvo at the local beachy before I found the left I'd been waiting for. I trimmed it and then inched forward until I was set high under the curl and near the nose, then I made I final assault on the nose and got my left foot five to the left of the stringer up on the nose.

This still was not good enough for what I wanted because the right foot was still too far back, so I bought it up to the nose, maybe just 10 inches back. Everything was holding up well and I figured it was time to do it.

No sooner had that thought entered my head, than my right foot found a shiny or none existent area of wax and i was unceremoniously dumped fair on my fat arse on the nose of the board, spinning on my back in an anti-clockwise direction

I think I'll give up

No need to give up ob. Keep at it. I am also one who finds it a little tough to come back the board - it normally because I am so excited to get up there that I just stay there until the wave ends or I sink the nose and fall in

You could always try a complete about face and walk to the back in a forward direction..... Next time you're out with Brad, watch him. He does that little hop, but does it going forwards as well and makes a nice little shoulder shrug as part of it..... Very stylish if you ask me...

But whatever you do, don't give up..... Remember when you tried all those times to go left? That paid off didn't it?

You should have been there last night MR, the surf was second rate, but there was some first class ass out there. I know an old perv like you would have loved it.

Why?

Because I'm one and I liked it

I prefer to shuffle my way up & back. I think it might have been you who recommended not worrying about cross stepping up to the nose about 14 months coz shuffling was faster. Cross stepping is hard going either way for me.

But anyway...it sounds like the waves your surfing (beachie) are more difficult to ride a longboard, beachies typically are in my experience. Maybe try & find a small point break or rivermouth that has slower breaking waves that crumble down the face & have a long fat shoulder. You could also try a longboard with more width for stability. Maybe a log/noserider if noseriding is your main goal .

try some tape on the carpet at home, pretend the tape is your stringer and practice walking up and down, 15mins a night for a week you will be amazed the difference. Also when out the water try not to think about it, i found when learning to walk forward and back the less you think about it the better.

also when in the trim spot aka the comfortable spot in the middle of the board, try crossing ur legs over, put 1 foot in front of the other and just see if you can hold it for 3-5 secs then go back to regular stance. do that for a while and you will get more comfortable and your body will adjust to the balance required
