I was just thinking about a few things this afternoon, both good and bad, I came to the conclusion that Australian Surfers are pretty lucky people.

I was lucky to have a ten day holiday recently where I got waves of varying quality everyday except one and generally had two sessions each day. Not only that I was in a beautiful place with great food and other activities on offer.

True many of us make our own luck and ensure that our life is fun and energetic. But when you think about it, I don't think there are too many other countries that have the beaches, points, reefs, climate and localities that are on offer in Australia.

Not only do we live in a beautiful part of the world, we are blessed with the ability to travel from Melbourne (brrrr bloody cold in winter) to Noosa in a couple of hours and enjoy a totally different environment. The surf quality varies greatly but that is part of travelling I think.

The variety of surfing opportunities, different environments and experiences available makes us one lucky country.

My opinion anyway.

What do you lot think?

ET.

Just walked in from verandah, and Richard Clapton "Down in the Lucky country" is playing.
"....doing alright cause we're making money...."
Lot of inequality thay way, just happy I am on the right side of it (at the moment.)
But I agree, very lucky.
With my new found passion for surfing(out again this morning) Helmy raised the question while we were (standing) out the back "how long has this been going on and why didn't anyone tell us?"

Good post ET. As a kiwi we always called Australia the lucky country and we still do. I never wanted to come here on holiday as I knew I would live here at some stage - so was happy to go elsewhere. I have been fortunate to call it home most of the last 14 yrs. I think its a wonderful place. I love the settled weather patterns, the warm water, waves, the people and the incredible opportunities it has given me. I really like this place. Tonight I went to a charity auction for an absolute legend bloke who is still out there when he can at 80 yrs plus. I am not sure how much longer I will be here but I do my best to enjoy every minute. Its an amazing place. Like anywhere, it has its ups and downs - but on balance it has been an amazing place to live * 10.

Tonight I was fortunate to be the successful bidder on a dream trip to G-Land for 6 nights n 3 nights in Bali and fast ferry transfers for a smidgen of the retail value. It helps that I am already going there in August. The money all goes to the cancer council - loads was raised - I also brought an e-bomb wettie for a bargain as well - what amazed me though was that not that many others seemed to appreciate what they have and were prepared to give back. This really is the lucky country (apart from yr rugby team) and its good to see the stoke in the Greenroom. I have been fortunate to meet many wonderful people from here (one dropped in for dinner last night and stayed over) and when I am back in NZ we will have to have a Greenroom convention - at a soon to be disclosed location and I can repay some of the amazing hospitality I have had in this country.

Australia rocks. You should all be proud and stoked. It really is the lucky country - those poms sure farrked up. Why on earth did they not make the bad ones stay there and let everyone else migrate - they blew it
