I have been competing on longboards for over 10 years, there is an 8' catagory in a lot of longbord competitions, can this bord be seen as a longboard in an 8' division?
Technically yes - traditionally no - it's more of a stretched out fish template, and having owned a 7'3" I would hazard a guess it would surf more like a big fish rather than a 'small' longboard - IMHO.
A proper longboard is 9ft plus.....
Below 9ft is not, call it what you want but it's not a LB.
Technically the definition is greater 47 inch aggregate width, wide point plus nose and tail and at least 9ft tail to nose.
As mac said if they have an 8ft division look at the rules.
Have never competed in a longboard comp but for me if it doesn't glide like a longboard it ain't a longboard .
I have a 6 7 fish , granted it is 1 foot 5 inches shorter then the 8 ft XL but it is definitely a short board and I assume the XL would retain the same traits .
