How big do they need to be to need this thing then..
9'6 if I remember correctly.
Huge then - as that is bigger than Tux's

Not that size doesn't matter when you get that big. Unless you are Drip or Tux the rest of us mere mortals are just happy to watch. Well I am anyway. Thats a lovely looking board SP. Hard to shoot them though when they are that big - you did a great job.
You have me all wrong. I have big boards because I have small nads. It's all about survival for me too. 10 foot is about it. I have mates who reach for their 7'2" when it reaches 10' and surf a 6'2"-6'4" up until then (I am thinking of a couple of guys in particular. Plus I start getting real fussy about which waves I surf when it's over 6'. Big channels are a necessity. So no big North Point, Womb etc. I'm after waves I don't have to get barrelled on. Some of the open ocean things may have more power, but they aren't as top to bottom.
So small nads.
Sometimes I like to think I surf them because I am more intelligent and have the right equipment too.

But then I remember that those blokes surf better than me in all conditions.
So small nads AND useless.
