Here, check out these things! https://soloshot.com/SOLOSHOT2-Package

Anyone got a camcorder/video camera? The one that comes with this package is pretty poor.

Anyone had any experience with these things or the CX220 camcorder that comes with it?

Looks like a cool little concept!

That isn't a problem in Tassie but can always lock it to a tree or something hey?

The 2 has some great new features compared to the 1.

This has been on my "to buy" list for just over 12 months...you get hammered with shipping charges if you order from there. The second one has horizontal & vertical panning. The first one you can pick up from an Oz Ebay seller for $400 including shipping, but it only has horizontal panning. It will work out 1/2 the price if it will do you. But yes, kicks ass on Gopro vids that only really look good if your in a deep barrel

Buy one so I know how it goes! Haha

The tilt is definitely worth the extra $$$.

A gopro? To far away to see! Thats why I was wondering if anyone had any camcorders that were good?

I mean, if you search, CX220 review, sounds pretty shocking. Wouldn't mind one of the Pana's, would cost around $1500 for a good panasonic plus a soloshot, I wonder if it is worth it? $1500 is like 3 new boards, or a whole bunch of PC upgrades or a new DSLR and lens!

Decisions!

Na, shorty room seems even more dead than the 666, longroom is the most lively.

My wife & I are both on our 2nd Panasonic cameras. I'm still using a Lumix FZ150 which is a great camera, has one of the fastest autofocus in its class & can autofocus while zooming. Which is something the DSLR's couldn't do the last time I researched camera's 3 years ago. The new FZ200 mid range Panssonic which replaced it also had great reviews & is much cheaper now than it was the last time I looked. Probably a new model coming out soon.

But yeah, the GH2 is a great camera if your spending over a $1k...the GH1 can be picked up at a nice price & would couple very well with a soloshot.

West Oz & places I'd use a soloshot are pretty flat, so horizontal panning would be fine...if you need the vertical panning, then yep it would definately be worth the extra $

Currently looking at buying a HC V720 to go with a soloshot or upgrade my DSLR to a D7100. Autofocus while zooming, don't think I have ever tried it on mine.

Thanks for the info, great post!

Not much of a review for either camera (google has those), but gives you a bit of a quick comparison....Note the FZ200 is also considerably cheaper.

I love my FZ150, this does not really show off the true possible quality of shots by my camera given the overcast conditions. Even if the camera does perform well in low light conditions. These pics www.seabreeze.com.au/forums/Surfing/Longboarding/Bali-Jan-2014/
were taken at the same time this video was being recorded by the same camera...at the same time. You can actually capture video & take photos at the same time albeit of lower quality, but they still came out great. The FZ200 is meant to be better...but anyway theres my biased opinion

Thanks for that Mick. After lugging round a 60D with 3 lenses for 7 weeks I have almost had enough! Never again. Great to have it all with you but its a dam pain the asse with the weight, worrying about it dropping it, changing a lens in a hurry, changing lenses when its dark or at the beach etc so I have vowed never to travel with it again. I will keep it for road trips and local travel but in all honesty I think its time to get something else as well.

I have been looking at this one as an alternative

Panasonic Lumix DMC-FZ70. I think I might get one of these. Great value by the look of it. Have you seen these?

I remember reading something about the previous model to the FZ150 (FZ100) having more megapixels, 14 if I remember right. They reduced the megapixels & changed from a something to a CMOS which considerably improved image quality. Just basic things like higher pixels (resolution) does not equate to a better quality image or video quality. There's a bunch of other stuff effecting overall performance as well. I havn't read reviews on the FZ70, its probably a good camera. But I think it is similar to the step down camera of the FZ150...in this case a step down from the FZ200. What made me spend the extra $100 was the ability to fold out the LCD screen, so you could put the camera down real low to take a pic upwards from the ground, but still line up a shot. I think its called an articulated LCD screen or something.

When you look at the overall bang for buck of a camera that's going to offer you the versatility of a good quality point & click. Of course you have to first look at its image & video quality first. Then take a look at all the other sh1t the camera can do. There may not be a great deal of difference between the FZ70 & FZ150 judging from a quick comparison www.digicamdb.com/compare/panasonic_lumix-dmc-fz70-vs-panasonic_lumix-dmc-fz150/

The FZ70 appears to fit into a price range between the FZ150 & the FZ200...but its the first time I've taken a quick look, so can't offer you a great deal of info on what my opinion would be...sorry mate...but in my experience the Lumix range of cameras are usually very good.
