That's the style of fin I like to use but since I picked up the Medusa, I'm not so sure I should.

The shaper asked me what I used and I explained it was a 9.75 Bennett retro with a narrow tip and a good amount of sweepback. He said he tried a similar fin but found it was swept back too much and made the board feel doughy, so he went to something more upright and it improved.

I nodded in agreement, but only because I had no idea what "doughy" means and I didn't want to sound like a complete dickhead, even if I am a complete dickhead.

But the thing is, he got me so worried that I was ridding a doughy board, I went home, got out every fin I had and measured the rake. I even went to the trouble of writing down the rake at the base of each fin, alongside the height.

He was right about the rake on that fin, it was the biggest at 11 inches. The smallest rake I could find was a 9.5 inch fin with a 9.5 inch rake, so I'm going to give that a try.

Yeah its a nice board...great nose rider..I'm not in Ob's class up the front but I managed to get a foot over in some junk waves...its not much good for floaters though

I was well and truly outclassed today at seal rocks, only another 3 out there and they were all way younger and way better than me. I just hung around for the dregs

never surfed there before, strange wave, I'm sure it can peel off on the day, but on a small day like today, it had a lot of sections over a reasonably short distance. I lost count of how many I didn't paddle onto some, because I thought I would drop in, only to see a guy bail because it fell apart in front of him and I could have have a nice ride by myself

BTW, I think my original fin choice was better so I'll swap back again tomoz Doughy must suit me

Forward fin makes it usable, rather than walking home.
No tendency to trip over it yet.
Test will be how small I can go with the forward fin?
And can I be bothered putting the rig together....????
