I have the latest 7'2" Moe. It is a light, big area board that is very easy to surf and catches everything you paddle for. I use it in small surf up to shoulder high (when I am feeling lazy). It prefers clean faces but can handle and is still great fun to surf in slop. It is quite loose if you get your back foot over the fins and once you dial it in, you can do foam climbs, lip smackes, floaters, etc.. It is a keeper for sure but I wouldn't have it as a one board quiver as I prefer something with less area and volume when the surf is pumping.

Thanks. I looked at one in the shop last week and it had a surprising amount of rocker so not sure how it would paddle.

How heavy are you Phantom? I'm looking for a higher volume beach break board. Interesting I sent a note to Harley Ingleby asking what his preferred board for a beach break is and he said the HIHP longboard.

I owned a Moe for a short time a few years ago. Believe it was the 7'2". I didn't think it paddled in the flats or into waves well enough to keep it despite it turning really well once I was on a wave I could catch. I do tend to prefer to sit out a bit in case anything larger comes through and I can be in position for it when riding a mid length.
Waves on my local beachy were absolutely firing this morning. Every so often a solid 6' set would arrive and amazingly they would hold up rather than close out. Big rights and lefts. Enjoyed looking at them and scuttling up the faces as they unloaded. I'd paddled out on a new custom 5'10" Hughies twin fin fish to find out what it's upper range was but was wishing I'd paddled out on the Mid 6 to have the early entry so I could tackle the bigger ones. As it was the medium ones were fun on the fishy. Should be on again in the morning so the Mid 6 will get its run.
Might as well throw in a pic of my 7' fish with crazy arse S-wing fins in it just for fun.

Man those fins look weird.

Speaking of fins, these bad boys arrived today. Alkali/Big Sky high aspect twins.




For all the fin nerds out there they're actually an interesting twin fin set. Major differences are they're not flat inside foil like most twins but 50/50 foil and have much less cant than other twins, something I know Skip Frye, Larry Gephart and more recently Josh Hall have all been doing. They're also quite raked and have a nice amount of flex. I was actually surprised by the amount of flex for a fin that's meant to add control at high speed and in powerful waves. Can't wait to give them a run in the McNeill mid twin.

I am 86kg and can paddle the Moe very easily.

I'm always looking at new mid length boards and this one looks interesting from local Goldy shaper Daniel McDonald.

Quite a high volume board for the lengths and also a twin fin!!

I don't know anything about the construction.

DMS has been making boards for years progress on design as always makes sweet boards.

Picked up a used Moe 7'4" yesterday. There's 4 crew that I know who have the 7'4" and love it. As I said a page or 2 back I didn't find the 7'2" a great paddler/wave catcher but they all assure me the 7'4" is different and I can see they catch waves no dramas. The board is nice and light which is a plus for ageing shoulders.
Let's see how it goes.

You can choose from poly, injection tech with eps and the carbon wrap with eps builds so plenty of choice for a preferred construction material/method. He often has sales on where you can save quite a bit so worthwhile signing up for newsletter/notifications.
The Ombe crew visited the Sunshine coast the other week and made a video about it. Came across it on Youtube and had a look as it was at my local beach break. I even made an appearance with a wave at the 6:38 mark and a brief bottom turn a bit later riding the Mid 6 7'6".

I have a Jye Byrnes Crossbreed. 7' x 203/4 x 2/34. Great board but I'm looking at adding either 7'4" Moe or a 7'6" Mid6 to the fleet. As you've ridden both, I'd be interested in your comments. ..or anyone else's if they've ridden them.

Ghost shaped but Chris has really high standards so the quality is still very high. Pretty sure these are still shaped by Paul Hutchinson and/or his crew who also do Takayama in Australia and they are glassed by Rhino Lam. I've had a few and i've had a one shaped by Chris, having one shaped by Chris is more about the romance than getting a better board, unless you were working with him to really fine tune something as he's a true master shaper.

I have a Timbertek TJ Pro that I'll never sell - looking for something similar but in a smaller package for the days when 9 feet is too many when the local beachie is firing. Usually I'd ride a traditional shortboard those days but the bod just won't do what I tell it to any more..... Not after a board for small and mushy - more an all round daily rider for the average to good days.
Any comments from experience with those boards or similar would be much appreciated. After having the timbertek for a couple of years I'm a fan of the weight and durability and would hope the thunderbolt is comparable.

Ive got the mid 6 and its really good in above average waves,I think the Moe would suit better as a small wave or less than average bigger surf,Ive seen a local older bloke ripping on his Moe in smaller stuff but the mid 6 is insane when the waves are pumping.

Yeah I have the 7'0 but would probably lean towards the 7'6 for winter wetsuit surfing and at 62 y/o I don't think Id really surf any better on one from the other when getting up to the 7'0 range in boards.Best of luck on your choice mate

Hi Magoo have PMd you previously re the brand new 7 8 Clearwater I have as an option, have now posted an ad here in Longboards For Sale section if you or anyone else interested! Great mid, just not exactly what I am after, plenty of volume but just a bit more refined tail than I need - lots of respect in these forums for Steve at Clearwater and a smaller CW single I had was my magic board for years, wanted a bigger one and got talked into a different model which just isn't what I wanted... So a brand spanking unused, never waxed CW mid available!
