Interesting, the CI does look more refined. Good reports on the HS from riders though, id have to try one.

The Howard special mint condition in Terrigal went damn quick last week too.

Theres a 6'10 Howard on gummy now BB pick up,I reckon there're a bit blobby, seen better mids elsewhere like the thick lizzie and new CI Devon collaboration

Agreed, I have looked at the Howard mini on many an occasion- I never liked the nose width but have been assured the rocker ensures they do not catch and they go well in good waves. Not sure about how they go in average waves as I believe they have a rolled bottom. Devon's new model the CI mid has concaves- only took him a couple of decades to work out this is a better option for an alrounder.

Check out the first wave of this clip with old mate Dev riding a 6'8 josh Hall long fish:

I think he surfs better on twin fins!!!

I've watched this like a hundred times now, really like Devon Howard's style of surfing.

Very similar to me in my own mind ;-)

Funny that hydro, I surf just like Devon as well, in my mind- and as long as nobody destroys that illusion I am happy.

I chuckled when I saw that clip because I think it's evidence not to buy a CI mid- but I am on a long fish trip at the moment so probably biased!

I agree, I think mid twins are great, seems to free them up a bit especially off the top.

Keep the dreaming alive onefin.

Went out for a wave yesterday, reef break around 2.5m. Had all the moves set up in my mind, unfortunately 75% of the time my ambition outweighed my ability. Still the other 25% gave me cause to celebrate, can still string a decent ride together even after 35 years out of the water.

Toobz, agree. For me the only way to really get the groove from a long rail is a loose tail.

onefin.

Wide nose on my Webber Diamond but have never had it catch or bury a rail.

The Carbon Jet I started back with had a very slight concave through to vee, it was a nice ride but a lot harder to lay over onto a rail than the Webber with a deep single into a double. That thing just loves to transition rail to rail but is still amazing in straight line as well.

This was today's surf report: 8/10. "Cracking waves today with 3- 5 ft waves and its coming in from the ENE - East direction so everywhere is getting some swell... clean and glassy all morning with light west breezes and a bit of NW now , but still so many great waves on offer...the lower tide saw smaller fast waves and as the tide came in the bigger peakier sets came into play... a very good morning of waves and still great now ...NW winds starting to increase so head to the open beachies , especially the ones that like a bit of north."

Rode the Sunova with the Twins and trailer and just waited for the larger set waves. Surfed it over the low to mid tide so it was pedal to the metal to make them. Had a couple of highline speed walls where the board free fell out of the top of the wave and dropped down the face and I was able to set the rail straight into the face and keep driving down the line. Yesterday with the same size waves it was easier with the bonzer trailers to high line and keep the board locked in to make sections.

Bonzers make sense for wall grip given location in relation to face and angle.

Like having meaty sidewall lugs on mud tires.

How was the turning with that setup and rail length?

Felt really good with the bonzer trailer set up. Laying into cutbacks had the bonzers on the perfect angle as well. They have gone back in after today's trial of the twin plus trailer.

A mate I surf with a lot has bought and sold over 150 boards in the last year or two. He's the KING of Gumtree. Talk about a seagull swooping on a chip. Sometimes I'll send him a link to a board he may like and he'll answer "just picked it up."
Edit: He just called me to tell me about the 7' Christenson Phish (long fish) he just swooped in and bought for a song...He's the man!

How is your mate finding the Christenson Long Fish Cuttles? Felt one up recently and they look good....

He raves about his. He bought a 6'er and then a 7'er as well. Just keep an eye on Gumtree though because the boards he owns are always a bad surf or two from being relegated to Gumtree again.

Damo check out the vouch midlength vish- incredible, so incredible I have two! Not sure if it's the rocker or the pulled in tail or a combination of but the range is great- waist high to over head; this review is on the money: www.sunburntmess.com/baord-reviews

Yes...but you're not likely to sell yours any time soon. Those 2 Christenson's are on borrowed time and so easy pickings.
The Christenson's are a lot more common too. If one has the cash to splash for a new one then my points are moot.
Edit: Damo send me a message. Just spoke to My mate. The 7'er is up for grabs. LOL.

Ain't that the truth Cuttles, I think it's a short term thrill v long term investment scenario
Depends on your view- I wasn't overly impressed with the Christensen's wide tail, I am not sure San Diego tails are gonna work in low tide east coast open beachies.

Good luck with that mate.

Fairly rare bird is the Diamond.

That is if you are talking the Webber.

Nautilus is a better option IMO. They handle low tide beaches, high tide fat rollers, Indo reefs and anything else you wanna have a crack at.
Narower in the nose and tail and more curve on the outline than the phish.

Not a twin usually but is done with a twin here

That board looks awesome but scared.

Seems a little twitchy when you bury a rail with no one committing to the deep cutback.

Hey watch me just throw my arms in the air and say meh.

Come on boys throw some weight into it, they all be riding it flat tail and not on the rail.

That was woeful and so were the optimistic comments from Chris Christenson ,the Nautilus is better as a quad, not a decent turn between all of them

yeah admittedly the waves were pretty fat and lumpy but never the less i thought they all surfed that board not much better than your average weekend warrior,I think Ive been spoiled by the prolific clips of Torren Martyn doing everything that I like to see by a good surfer whether on a twin or not

I just went looking for a clip with Rasta doing a dropped wallet as an example and have fallen down a rabbit hole of Youtube viewing alternative videos of fish surfing...this could take a while.
Edit: Swellnet just added a short article on Torren Martyn as well as the "Mother" clip there..
