Well, his boards are the best I've surf and really changed my whole perspective on wave riding and on connection to the ocean...

And thats a pretty significant thing to pass on to anyone...

And yeah Onefin, I have the TA sides (training wheels according to Joel Tudor ) now... FINALLY!!! so keen to give those a run and see what difference they make.

I think the board will feel different partly just with the extra volume but also the tri-plane hull is more pronounced... Its also Volan so that tends to make it a bit stiffer.

SP, the wide point is actually forward but the rail line is really pretty straight. He sets the thickest point right on your chest for paddling and the wide point is just before that... Too fckn cold to take her outside and get a proper pic sorry... Maybe tomorrow...

515, The cold brings the swell so Thursday looks really promising.. And the key to surfing Tassie winter is bloody good rubber, which I have so I'm normally pretty toasty out there... Getting changed on the other hand... NASTY business

Christened 8'2" Lizzy today on average head high local points.

Must admit, we started pretty average, make that REALLY average... Maybe it was the crowd, which was pretty crazy with the "pre-workies" being typical a$$holes mixed with kinda lumpy and tricky waves... anyways, first hr was VERY forgettable...

But then around 9ish the crowd cleared and the waves cleaned up and scored a few real fun ones on her, one in particular that was my best wave at this particular break, OH and just went and went and went and the legs were screaming when I finally pulled out, made so many sections I just would not have made on other boards I've owned... Amazing wave...

Anyways... first impressions are really great...

Enough extra paddle for the long paddles back out and to better compete with the loggers.
Very similar crazy but natural down the line speed, without any ugly pumping... they really are amazing with this...
Turning seems nearly as good.
Late takeoffs, I definitely missed a few I feel I would have made on the 7'7"... But then positioning and extra paddle should get you in better position... soooo...

The real notable improvement though was forward trim... Mann... so fun and just holds with ease whereas I have to be a bit more careful with the 7'7". Not totally sure why but this one is even more foiled through the tail and the Tri-plane is a bit more pronounced... I think.. regardless... It works...

Perfect points board to compliment my everyday board...

Had a little chat with the board on the beach, asked it if we were going to get along, didnt get a reply but felt like we had an understanding.

From the first wave the board delivered the goods - paddled well, had really good trim and speed with the flow and style that I was looking for.

Everyone should have a good midlength in their quiver

Hey Ricardo, I can't speak highly enough about my boutique American hipster board, it covers everything that I paddle out in and into. Very versatile, I ride mine in waist high and up, onshore, offshore, high tide, low tide, points, beachies whatever. I prefer it as a bonzer with a Greenough 4a centre fin but it also works great as a single fin. Just depends on your preference.

It does have a bit of foam hence the name but the foam distribution is a benefit not a hindrance. In the water you feel the foam as you're catching a ton of waves and as you are cheater fiving down the line, during turns you do not feel any corkiness. The rails are a highlight on this board.

I like it because it has different sweet spots and you can move around, change your weight distribution and just get different feels. If you get the opportunity, I highly recommend you bite the bullet.

And yes, those Keyos look a great option. If I lived in Sydney, I would visit those guys.

Just out of interest, you're riding a 7'2" but how many kgs do you weigh in at?

And what size Greenough are you running with the sides? I FINALLY have mine but thinking the 7.5" might be a bit big with sides, considering ordering a 7"

I had another guy msg me offline, he's 65kg's and has a 7'2", been a life-changing board for him too, cant get off it...

Hey Andy, yes Lizzy has certainly been a highlight of my surfing evolution.
I am 70-72kg. My 4a which I run with the large bonzer sides is 8", I am thinking of getting a 7.5" but wouldn't go any smaller. The guy who rode the first 7"10 thick Lizzy used a 7.5" Skipp Frye with bonzer sides and the fin Ryan gave me is his vbolwls fin which is 7.75". I prefer the Greenough though, thinner tip, bit more flex.

The reason why I suggest to not go smaller than the 7.5" is that the bonzer sides are too small. The sides on a Campbell Bros bronzer are much bigger so you can use a 6.5-7" fin.

Just realised Andy, I just assumed you were gonna run it as a bonzer! If you're going to use 3.5-4" (normal) side bites, then yes, the 7" 4a will be perfect.

The bonzer sides he's sent are just under 3" so hopefully they'll just compliment the 7.5". Might have a chance to try it tomorrow with a bit of luck.

Not quite a 4a but very close...

Here's the set up, having not surfed a Bonzer set up what are the thoughts on positioning? Thats my lock fin position when surfed as a single... Looking at it though it feels like too much fin... Think i'll surf it as is today but i'm definitely eyeing a TA Bonzer Centre...

Imho you need a stiffer fin to go with those bonzer sides. Its about harnessing the effect of the venturi water flow in a true bonzer bottom and so a fin with plenty of base and surface area to push off rather than the more subtle load up and release of a flex fin. If you're running a bonzer centre then you'll find it can be sensitive to placement in relation to the trailing edge of the sides. Placements available off the Campbell bros website.
And Jason (Onefin), I'd be moving that centre back a bit more to spread out that cluster as a starting point and adjust from there.

Usual disclaimer about if it feels right use it, fins are a personal choice but that centre wouldn't be my choice in a bonzer or2+1. Looks like a narrow raked tip with a bit of flex? which I don't really go for.

As for the bonzer, The Campbell bros side are 2 3/4 so yours sound the same as a glassed on version. CF post above nailed it.

Bonzer centres are stiff, upright, thick tip and a fair amount of base.

Not saying the fin you have won't work but not a typical bonzer fin. Soar fins make a good bonzer centre and Aussie made too.

I'd be going for a 7 or possibly a 6.5 inch and the general rule from C bros is 5 3/4 inches from the tail. Or pretty much front of the centre fin in line with the trailing edge of the sides bites.

I think the 6.5" is likely the go but I guess my issue is that I love the way she turns as is, I really only need the training wheels for when it get bigger and I need that extra bit of stability, so I don't really want to drop $100 odd for what will be occasional usage... but will likely have to as maybe that saves me buying another board for that bit of a whole...

Anyways, didn't surf it today, took out the 8'2" as it looked super small... Turns out, up the beach where I surfed it was beautiful head high rip bowl and omg she just loved it!!! And the extra paddle made it heaps more fun, more time on waves and less time fighting to get the right position... really loving the board 2 surfs in, perfect compliment to the 7'7"... Hope you're all getting waves on this long weekend...

Thanks Pete, I am back to a single and bonzer again now..... I found it too "light" in the tail and particularly awkward on my backhand. I am just not a thruster guy.

Yesterday arvo I popped the 4a in and took it for a spin as a single, it was quicker. I felt a bit lacking drive on my forehand but great on my backhand. Really nice through turns.

Based on that experience, I have put the small bonzer sides in with the 4a. I LL also try them with the 7.75" Lovelace vbowls fin which has less flex in the tip and more base..... Not till the weekend though.... Forecast looks bleak
