He's a super talented shaper Pieter, beautifully finished boards...

That's a pretty interesting shape, basically a massive Mini-Simmons. Should be a massive wave pig with that wide square tail and go super fast... I'd be curious to see how they turn though as I find thats the issue with a normal Mini-Simmons, I surf an MS around 5'6" and i'm guessing thats close to 7'...

I would try it without the nubster centre as I reckon that would only create drag, maybe you's need it in larger stuff but i doubt you'd take that out in larger stuff unless the waves were really flat.

Would be super fun on small days when you cant really turn and cant noseride the log...

Cool idea I reckon, be interested to get a ride report.

I was going to go the single fin. Any compelling arguments to go 2+1?
ive got a couple of 7.5 -7.75 inch fins I would try...although I note the brothers Marshall fin seems to be quite popular.
would this fin be a good match?...I've only ridden it 9ft boards with the side bites...not in a single fin.

Some super nice boards one here,and I'm loving some of the expert analysis

I have been a mid length fan for a long time.

Have been through the old single fin phase a few times and had a crack at the rolled bottoms and hulls,absolutely hate them. Hard to ride and very limiting , just plain boring for how I like to surf,inlike turning on a wave and hitting the lip,also I'm not a good enough surfer to get the best out of them though,and the majority of people who ride them are sacrificing a way easier and more fun surfing experience by falling for the cool factor,I see it so much up here .

My favourite board that will never be sold is still my 7'6 bee sting/maca model. 5fin set up is the go. Thruster when its bowly or I want to slow down,but it's a quad the majority of the time ,so much speed and it loves to be put on rail.

I like flat boards,not hipster flat though so I still have some nice rocker through it

I had the FT and ran a 7.5" Brothers Marshal Captain Fin... I would say that one should work but may be too big still. As soon as you over fin the board they hate hate it and they don't need too much fin bcs the rails are super refined through the tail and do a lot of the work... Personally I would go single but Scotty went with a Widow maker. I think you only would use the sides if it was solid OH and you wanted to go more vertical... watch this though, its pretty dry but really detailed and thorough...

They are just better is my argument.

I've had both a single only and another with side bites Get the sides. Especially if you wanna surf it on reefs. They help it get off the mark quicker and make it more manoeuvrable.

You can always surf it as a single if you get sides and don't like it.

The Christenson fin is great in it or the Tudor captain fin is a good fin too.

The CW fins from shapers is a good 2+1 setup.

That Huevo Ranchero work better than I thought it would in a smaller waver that looks pretty fat. Quite likely the surfer though.

Just need to be in a different box position. It's kinda a trial and error thing to find what you like. Closer the cluster and bigger the centre will make it more single like.

More spread out and closer in size the 3 fins are will be more thruster ish.

Haha... totally...

I only see him riding Tak logs though... and it does seem he likes a Bonzer as does Knost.

I think it generally depends on how you turn, the side bites only create drive on a swooping turn and do they help if you want to go more vertical but they are drag in a straight line...

I'm still waiting on my Bonzer fins for the Lizzy, I still fail to see how they will help but if they do... then WOWSERS, that board is already something special, by far and away my favorite ride...

If your going straight and the board is flat your doing surfing wrong.

The wave curve and angle mean your board is never really flat and in a straight line so I don't buy the add drag theory. A moving wave, turning board, bottom and rail curves contours all work together to geneate speed drive and lift.

I think of it like putting a motor on a boat. If its drifting it's dragging but start the motor and the force overcomes the drag. Just buy catching a wave and going across you are giving it propulsion and engaging the fins, rails and bottom contours which naturally produce lift and drive. . especially if the bottom has concave.
The lift and drive overcome any drag.

There is a good article on the Cambell bros website about directing waterflow and board angle. Ie the water never flow straight across the board.

Personally, I just prefer the feel of a single fin or twin keels... And my style is too fkn lazy to get the benefits of a thruster... But like I said, keen to try the Lizzy as a bonzer to compare...

Hey Andy, hang in there for those bonzer fins, SP is on the money. The bottom contour of the Lizzy is bonzer like & designed to be ridden as a bonzer in the shorter lengths. It def works as a single but the bonzer sides give it extra drive without any significant drag.

i love singles as well but on rolled bottom boards. I get Devon Howard's point but doubt I would ride his Howard mini special as a 2+1. Check out the Vouch website, they have their evo which is a great single fin and have just released a Devo. The devo appears to be an evo with concaves and..... a 2+1 set up. I think this is where Joel Tudor is coming from.

Either way, I am sure you re having a blast, the Lizzy is a great board and worth the wait!

Has heaps of paddle power but still surfs pretty good. Especially when you get your foot back over the Ewing. Think the Ewing is supposed to shorten the turning radius. It was shaped by Malcolm amd I picked it up second hand. I'd probably go for less bulk if I went custom but really happy with how it goes.

And yeah Andy I started to listen to hat podcast but got distracted and never went back. He is an interesting bloke. Might have to find time to listen to the rest of it.

The hydronamic stuff he talks about is pretty interesting... He does come across as pretty arrogant but his theories seem pretty sound... I do particularly love that he paddled out at an asp contest on a log bcs the conditions were sh1t and hung 5 over, only got a 3 though... Deffinately worth a listen on the way to a surf

I personally don't think that he comes across as arrogant. He just doesn't follow the trends and is a bit blunt in his approach. I respect that as I feel like in surfing and many other industries most are sheep and are afraid to stray from the pack.
