Yup, now that I have a proper fin setup in my Evo II it's still too heavy/slow rail to rail especially compared to my prior mcT's and current Surftech Original (my third Surftech, had several poly ones, they rule) so I'm considering ordering a new one. I'm the kind of OCD guy with boards and have every one for the last 20 years measured to 1/16". Primarily have been a shortboarder but age is catching me and longboarding more, always have had McT's because of their performance orientation. One of my all time faves was the Jason Blewitt, and as I recall the website described the rails as "small, boxlike like a shortboard". Now every one I see on the current website is described as 60/40 and the ones on my Evo II are very soft. May just be me but lower rails get up off the water faster and lend themselves to a more shortboard feel which is what I'm looking for. My old 9'0 Blewitt (unfortunately snapped it) was such a great all around small wave performance board I'd like to duplicate it. Advice, and many thanks to those who like to weigh in.
Well I'll give you three more options ClubTed - have a close look at (in no particular order) Goddard (Ron Goddard) , Clearwater (Steve Del Rossi) and Creative Army (Josh Constable) ..... well worth the effort , top notch classy boards that do the deed.![]()

You can throw in South Coast surfboards, Dave Boyds Imperials and the High Tide boards from Jordy...all make sick boards
have you ever thought to go a local custom mate, using your local shapers advice for a better board? or a you just purely set in buying a overpriced name brand name, with a lovely write up![]()
If you don't mind the surf tech boards then the Billy Tolhurst 9'1 is a very good hp board. Its narrower and more thinned out than the Original with plenty of rocker if thats your thing. Best HP longboard in the surf tech range IMO .
I'll weigh in with an EvoII comment.
The soft chine rails up front really allow the board to sit in the wave, and are very stable and forgiving when up front.
But the EvoII has quite a bit of performance off the tail just like the UFO.
Clubted, you mentioned low boxy rails... On the Blewitt... But the rails on all the boards change quite a bit through the length of the board...
Bob also stated that the Ray Gleave has Broomstick Dia rails up front... Most HP's are close to that anyway. But I like that simple statement / reference point...
A few of the boys said I should ride a Ray Gleave, and that I surf like him. Another comment was that I'm a natural longboarder. It's obvious I like to cruise and trim at times. I was quietly flattered. Some of the other boys on the trip rarely moved forward on a 9'1, or only move 1 foot forward.
To be honest I actually can't remember exactly when I last rode anything under 9... Actually it was Chrispy's

Firstly - and I don't know how many times I gotta say this " Longboards, are not, and never will surf like a shortboard". The only thing that surfs like a shortboard - is a shortboard.
I have ridden a lot of "hp" longboards, and the best "hp" longboard by far is the Laguna Bay MSJ Pro. They are not though the cheapest boards on the market and are certainly up there in price with all the other premium aussie made boards (cheaper than some certain big labels though) - but they are worth every single cent IMO.
As for surftechs, there are quite a few in the range that are aimed at the HP surfer and you need to try out a few, like the Tolhurst 9.1 and Perhaps Takayama Noah Ka Oi, just to name 2 exceptional boards that I have ridden and have know many good surfers to own/ride.
Steve del rosso makes excellent and very well priced performance mals, as does Brett Munro.
If you are intent on riding longboards and really want more performance then You really should consider getting a custom 8fter or similar.
